Sean Hannity’s Freedom CONcert Scam
Debbie Schlussel Blog Post ^ | March 18, 2010 | Debbie Schlussel

Posted on 03/18/2010 12:54:44 PM PDT by TRY ONE

For the last several years, Sean Hannity and the Freedom Alliance “charity” have conducted “Freedom Concerts” across America. They’ve told you that they are raising money to pay for the college tuition of the children of fallen soldiers and to pay severely wounded war vets. And on Friday Night, Hannity will be honored with an award for this “Outstanding Community Service by a Radio Talk Show Host” at Talkers Magazine’s convention.

But it’s all a huge scam.

Some of us are good at telling good people from bad people. I guarantee you Sean and Ollie are good people. We really got to stop all this eating our own.

I have never been much of a Hannity listener, I can only take him in small doses, but hope this is not true....

Has anyone ever done looked at Farm Aid.....my Daddy was farmer for many years and he never knew of anyone that received assistance from them....I am just wondering....

Jess:
I thought this was another Dumb Debbie article but it is accurate from what I can see off their tax forms.

According to their 2008 tax return, they spent $802K for 167 scholarships.

While taking in $7791k. That's a lot of overhead.

Ummm....maybe the money has been set aside in a fund to be spent when the children of the fallen soldiers actually reach college age.

I’ll say again....according to Charity Navigator over 81% of the money Freedom Alliance raises goes to Program Expenses, meaning to the actual charitable work (as opposed to overhead).

Schlussel has obviously misrepresented the numbers from the tax forms in the hope that a bunch of unsuspecting dupes would believe what she spoonfeeds them. That may work on her blog but not here.

Hannity has lost our respect with this one.

I think I will wait for Hannity to speak. I don’t dump mid stream.

Is it $12 million total or $12 million after expenses? The Freedom concert website says that they give from the net proceeds minus all expenses. Concerts aren’t cheap. Most people are not paying to just give to charity. They are paying for a concert ticket.

Do you think the artists involved donate all of their time? NOPE. They have to pay their expenses in putting on a good show.

I’ve been calling Hannity a whore for years. He always puts himself in the limelight hawking some book or other thing. He’s an intellectual lightweight. He can’t articulate his positions beyond the “good little choir boy” stage very well.

I largely ignore Levin and don’t see how his purported relationship to Hannity has anything to do with the behavior I’ve observed from Hannity.

What about the numbers the charity watchdog orgs have posted? Are those crap, too?

I run two companies and can read a tax return.

Pick any year and go through the first three pages:

I/m not a hannity fan, but if you read the balance sheets they have about $20mil in the bank and I get that because I don't think they are going to hand out $30000 checks to a 17 year old and hope they make it through 4 years of college, they probably are going to dispense money ever year based on student performance and viability,etc... That being said the amounts being paid out are very low, I would expect to see $5000-6000 grand a year at least to such a low number of recipients...So my big problem is they have too much money in the bank and they are stingy about doling it out either get more recipients or cover more expense for your selected recipients.

History has shown that debating is not a proper or effective way to deal with liberals and traitors.

Regardless of what a liberal says or writes, they are ravings to be simply discarded. Just as it is a waste of time to talk logic with a drunk, it is a waste of time to discuss virtually anything with a liberal.

“I thought this was another Dumb Debbie article but it is accurate from what I can see off their tax forms.”

It will hurt us all, if true; Hannity has become a media feast and they will start beating the “hypocrosy” drums like crazy...ironic, that DEEMocrats love to talk about hypocrisy so much, but we may not hear the end of this one; “You are a great American...HAR HAR HAR”

This one will leave a mark.

My personal opinion:

I think one has to understand that Debbie Schlussel has a personal vendetta against Sean Hannity. I think she hates him. She appears to have burned many bridges with the likes of Mark Levin, Michelle Malkin, Rush Limbaugh, Laura Ingraham, and a host of others. For what reason she has chosen to do this, I do not know. Do a basic search and the results speak for themselves.

As for her article, a lot of it seems dubious. It reads of a personal animosity. And her conclusions reek of the type I normally read from leftist sites coming up with a "scoop" to bring down a popular conservative.

She doesn't name her sources, who are making potentially slanderous statements, which forces me to question the veracity of her information and their personal agenda. The tax returns have been published from Freedom Alliance's own web site. They are not hiding anything. And more, Oliver North was the founder and brought Sean Hannity into the organization. But more to the point, Sean Hannity and other prominent conservatives give huge amounts of money for the scholarships (a point left out in Schlussel's article).

I would not be surprised if Freedom Alliance is currently looking into legal action against Debbie Schlussel. But even if they are not, I trust my own intuition about people, and Sean Hannity doesn't fit the profile of a scam artist. Not by a long shot.

From all I have ever seen and read about, Freedom Alliance a solid organization.

I can’t read Hannity’s mind. People do strange things when they have power. What made Tiger Woods think he could do what he did with impunity?

The deal here is not that Hannity is dishonest. I certainly have no reason to believe he has made a penny from this. But when only about $3 out of $48 over the last several years has made it to the target group, you wonder about the good will of those who are running the show.

As one person put it, people bought a concert and they got a concert. But I would like to think that more than $0.06 of each of my dollars were on target, rather than paying professional sound, light, and venue people.
