Does his pro-Obama background matter?

“Romney praises Obama
WASHINGTON (CNN) -- Former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney praised President Obama
at a GOP fundraising dinner Wednesday ..
"I also think it's important for us to nod to the president when he's right," Romney said....
Romney, who spoke at a dinner for the National Republican Senatorial Committee,
said he's pleased with the president's plans to "finish the job" in Iraq and Afghanistan
-- lines that drew applause from the partisan audience. He also applauded the president
for standing up to the auto industry.
"I hope he continues to be tough ....The former businessman even offered faint praise for
Treasury Secretary Tim Geithner, saying that after a series of initial missteps,
"I think he's finally getting close to the right answer."

Well, I guess now Romney wants to position himself as a conservative. It's an old political tactic — gauge the mood of the country, then try to adapt to it.

I lost all respect for Romney when he said that national health care should be modeled after the “successful” program in Massachusetts. That program is hardly successful; it's actually swirling the bowl.

Yay! It's today's 2-minute hate.

(Extended to 2+ hours, for your hating pleasure...)

What would Diogenesis do without Mitt-hater threads?

I will try and act shocked...

Let's see...

“Wow, is Mitt really telling us he was never pro-choice, that he never changed his position over the years, despite the fact he did and up until today (no they won't stop) his sycophants here on FR tried to drag Reagan in and smear him in order to explain Mitt's now nonexistent (i.e. no loner acknowledged) “change” to a pro life stance he now says he always had?”

How did I do...

Romney will be the first presidential candidate defeated by YouTube.

There is too much video of Romney taking liberal stances, and the country is in no mood for a filp-flopper or RINO.

Like 1980, 2012 will be a year the country is looking for substance over style.

Didn’t he, in another interview this week, say he was pro choice but changed his mind?

McCain is now claiming that he never was a “maverick”. He’s The Mother Of All Conservatives right now.

Thanks for the uninformative post.

Why didn’t you simply post the Romney’s quote, instead of directing us to an outside website?

You get to use 300 words, you know.

Here is the quote for everybody else:

MITT ROMNEY (2010): Well, you know, I never really called myself pro-choice, but I did say when I was running for governor that I would keep the law as it was.

ROMNEY (2007): Look, I was pro-choice. I am pro-life. You can go back to YouTube and look at what I said in 1994. I never said I was pro-choice, but my position was effectively pro-choice.

Mitt, you lie.

We’re each entitled to strong personal beliefs. And we encourage other people to do the same. But as a nation we recognize the right of all people to believe as they want and not to impose our beliefs on other people. I believe that abortion should be safe and legal in this country. I have since the time that my Mom took that same position when she ran in 1970 as a U.S. Senate candidate. I believe that since Roe v Wade has been the law for 20 years that we should sustain and support it and I sustain and support that law and the right of a woman to make that choice.

Willard, you said this in 1994, so for 24 years you believed this, just like your Mom(!), and now all of a sudden you're a new man?! In 2002, you reaffirmed this life-long bedrock position again ... "I’ve been very clear on that. I will preserve and protect a woman’s right to choose."

Slick Mitty go away. We're not buying.

Today: MITT ROMNEY: Well, you know, I never really called myself pro-choice, but I did say when I was running for governor that I would keep the law as it was.

Before: A politician who once movingly described becoming pro-choice when a family friend died from an illegal abortion now says he became pro-life after hearing a scientist use the word “destroy” while talking about stem-cell research (an account the scientist disputes).

Who is this Romney guy?

Boston Globe;
"Now, his campaign is trying to explain a photo, sent to several news organizations today, that shows him at a fund-raiser for the abortion provider.

snip
Romney's campaign acknowledged in May that Ann made a $150 contribution to Planned Parenthood in 1994, but his spokesman Kevin Madden said at the time, "Since it was so long ago, Ann has no information of the circumstances."

Romney has said he changed his mind about abortion starting in 2004 after talking to scientists about stem cell research.

Romney dismissed any significance of the photo.

"I attend a lot of events when I run for office. I don't recall the specific event," Romney said while campaigning today in South Carolina, according to the Associated Press. "I think I've made it very clear. I was pro-choice, or effectively pro-choice, when I ran in 1994. As governor I'm pro-life and I have a record of being pro-life and I'm firmly pro-life today."

His campaign also issued this statement today: "Governor Romney is firmly pro-life and has made it clear that as president he will advocate for a culture that welcomes life and protects the sanctity of life. Like Ronald Reagan before him, the governor has changed his position on this issue and changed it in the right way. Governor Romney does not regret, and won’t apologize for the fact, that he has become pro-life."

On the photo specifically, the statement said, "As Mrs. Romney has stated previously, she is unfamiliar with the circumstances of a check she wrote close to 14 years ago. During his campaign for US Senate in 1994, it would not have been out of the ordinary for the governor to have attended an event, out of the hundreds that any candidate would attend during a campaign season, which involved a voter coalition and also have his wife accompanying him."

To: TitansAFC; All

Abortion is one of those issues that is driven by emotion and therefore can’t be solved, without people of courage and wisdom addressing it. I would like to see rational position statements from all candidates posted and discussed here.

There are legitimate prenatal medical issues that must be decided (within guidelines) by the medical facility and attending physicians and the patient. Any attempt to dictate or control these decisions will result in what we fear in the current health care proposals as well as decisions like those commonly seen under “zero tolerance” laws/policies.

The other issue is the use of abortion as a means of birth control. Each candidate should be asked their position on this as well as how they would avoid interference with the legitimate medical issues. Oh yes, each candidate should be required to answer this question “what is the difference in “partial birth abortion” and a teenager throwing a living/ dead fetus into the trash. The only difference I see is that the government demands the right to make the decision.

On a personal note, the daughter of a friend discovered, late in her pregnacy, that she had cancer. Her decision (with consultation with her doctor and family) was to delay treatment (since then I have read of successful pregancie with treatment). Sadly she died but my friend has a healthy granddaughter. I saw the heartbreak of this decision, I DO NOT WANT THE GOVERNMENT INVOLVED IN IT.

Be nice if this forum could discuss these issues and knock off the personnel attacks... rule 13 is for THEIR side.

>>>>>.. if he continues to pretend he was never pro-choice or play word games about his previous stance, abortion will plague his candidacy again in 2012.

IF this fraud chooses to run in 2012, the truth will play a big part in killing off Willard's candidacy again.
