GM to Restore About 600 Dealerships
Newser ^ | 03/05/2010 | John Johnson

About 600 GM dealerships are getting a second life. Of the 1,160 dealers who appealed orders to shut down as part of bankruptcy proceedings, approximately half will be allowed to stay open. But one dealer tells the Detroit News that it's no cause for celebration until the conditions are made clear, possibly as soon as today.

"They could make it cost-prohibitive or they could set conditions like they need 30-year site control of our properties, which is what Chrysler is doing," she said. "It should be as simple as if the dealerships are viable and sustainable, they should be reinstated."

Hard to say this, but Ford is your best bet right now.

Hmm....

Yesterday Aftn, AP noted that the SEC gave Ford's CEO Alan Mulally permission to exercise a buy option of 1.04 mln shares @ $12.69....

What does that say when the CEO goes in @ this price when last winter/spring "F" was down as low as 1 dollar and change.....

Most people don’t realize that there is no profit in selling new cars. The dealers make their money from marking up used cars that they pay very little for, auto service, and warranty work. New cars are a loss leader. Sometimes the Finance Manager can sell an extended warrenty, etc, and there is profit it in that.

I still own my 2000 GMC Sierra, and will be replacing it with either a newer used one or a brand new one down the road. I don’t really care if they’re government motors, they still make some of the best trucks.

is the state run media done whipping toyota yet ?

maybe they can get around to doing a two hour special on GM dealerships and a showcase of the new models on 20/20 or 60 minutes now

LOL ! CARB even makes us use these gas cans that dont leak fumes but spill all over the place when you try to get it to pour. and they make manufacturers sell special chainsaws, lawn mowers and motorcycles that run so lean they burn a piston and make the headpipes glow red ! ! you cant even get a barbeque to grill a steak right because they are CARB compliant

But CARB has gigantic high rise offices in every major city with massive AC units and employees filing their nails all day when they arent busy shutting down small businesses for this or that petty air quality violation, meanwhile the cities dump millons of gallons of raw sewage in the ocean daily

Far be it from me to step into Chevy vs. Ford trucks debate. I’ll stand clear, thank you. I’m not a truck/SUV guy.

I completely agree. What they did to bond holders, the management, and just handing over to the union... Un American, and there will never be a new GM product in our house. We are Capitalist, and we made the Country Great

Sorry GM.
Me and my extended family will NEVER buy another UAW-pasted-together product.

I’ll buy Hyundai/Kia first.
At least they are from a country allied to the USA.
Unlike the UAW.

There’s nothing ObamaGM can do to get any additional money from us. We have given them all we can with a gun to our heads.

Dear leader went through all the trouble to make GM a government subsidiary, and its losing money.

I guess the next step is to squash Ford with taxes.

F-Obama and Blackie-O. They can both kiss my A$$.

Of course most of those 600 dealership owners will be registered Democrats.

I made up my mind 17 years ago to never buy a new car again, and glad I did. Once they hit 20 grand, that was it.

Last brand new vehicle for me was in 1993 for $12,000.

Last used vehicle was a 2003, $15,000 , with 30,000 miles on it.

Now ? I will buy a junker, put a new engine and trans in it, and have it painted for under $10,000.

So...let me get this straight; these 1160 dealers have been just sitting around on their empty lots for the past year, doing nothing?

Where's their inventory? How were they able to continue paying their employees? Did service and parts alone keep them afloat?

The ones in my area have closed up shop, lock-stock-and barrel; the windows are boarded up...owners bankrupted. There's no reopening for those folks. It's just another obama screw up that hasn't helped a damn thing but his marxist agenda.

Do they really want to be "dealerships" for union owned manufacuterers?

I own two Chevrolets, both about 7 years old; as soon as possible, I'm going to trade them for a brand that doesn't have a union.

I've owned GM most of my life, but never again. I feel for all of the people in the dealerships who lost their jobs based on an obama brain-fart, but we all have to just get up, dust ourself off, and go forward.

Now the obamabots are trying to screw Toyota (while they're down) for not playing "union" with them. They're even trying to blame Toyota suppliers for some GM recalls.

Government Motors and car Czars..."thou doth protest too much".

The best thing to do for self preservation, is the opposite of whatever obama wants you do do.

We just plunked some money down for an Outback. We visited a Ford dealership but I just didn’t like the cars. The Edge was just too big and hubby really wanted another Outback.
