Suicide Watch For House Democrats

The fate of President Obama’s health care agenda rests with a couple dozen or so House Democrats. There are three major categories.

* The Stu-Pack: Rep. Bart Stupak, D-Mich., says 12 Democrats will oppose legislation if it lacks tough language barring abortion funding.

* The AP Nine: AP on Tuesday said nine Democrats who opposed the House health bill are uncommitted regarding the latest plan. So far none of these members has signed up to join Nancy Pelosi’s suicide squad.

I think the GOP should add a separate amendment to postpone any tax increase until after the recession/depression. That way the debate will come down to these clowns voting for a tax increase in an already failing economy instead of “healthcare”.

Then, offer a separate amendment to postpone any Medicare cuts, etc. Get the money issues out front.

If they can’t propose amendments to this bill, then maybe submit a different bill to put a freeze on new taxes or Medicare cuts until the economy recovers.

Progressives Regressing: A few Democrats that voted “yes” on the House bill have suggested they might vote no.

These "Progressives Regressing" types are the ones to watch. I'm betting their numbers will grow. What we need is for a few of them to declare a NO vote and qualify that NO vote with a "I don't care what the Senate does or doesn't do or promises to do I'm voting NO" kind of comment. If that happens I think there will be a flood of them and the it will be game over for ObmaCare.

Plus it will take some kind of miracle to move the Stupak bunch. That magic will not come from Pelosi. It has to come from Reid and the Senate. Keep your eyes wide open and watch for a move on that front. I've seen nothing yet but I expect something to be offered soon.

Of course I'm an optimist and don't know much about the Chicago Way.

I expect these House Dems will ultimately cave. This is the usual staking out territory and line-in-the-sand rhetoric.

I hope I'm wrong and Nancy gets this stuffed up her a@#.

This happening is about zero percent. Only when we get a super majority in both the Senate and House can we (then) have the power to overcome the tide against us.

They are holding out for their share of bribe money.

This thing will either pass by a single vote 217-216 or it will fail by 10-15 votes. I think there is alot of anger out there to these dems to stay in line.

Keep up the pressure and call and write!!!

There was a group of 10 or so ultra-libs that voted for the original house bill, but said they would not vote for the senate bill because it did not included a robust public option. I have not heard anything about them for a while, is it safe to assume that Pelosi/Obama has gotten them back on the plantation?

How many Democrat votes do we need to kill it? Will the Stupak 12 get it done?

After donning my tin foil hat for some analytic thinking, I am of the opinion that some (few or many, don't have a clue) home Dems are being quietly shown a big and ugly stick. IOW, some are being threatened. And I don't mean BS like committee status and stuff like that. I mean things like, we'll make sure your life after congress is hell in all kinds of ways.

I think Obama’s mantra to leery Dems is going to be—”pass something...ANYTHING, and we’ll fix it later, through other bills.” Let’s hope that enough of them will not fall for this argument. If these “ultra-libs” are principled enough to demand the public option, let’s hope they won’t accept anything less.

We need to play the same game publically and threaten the Dems too and not with just you are going to lose your job mantra. We need to make it clear that not only will they get voted out but they will also be investigated for bribery and corruption and then prosecuted.

“is it safe to assume that Pelosi/Obama has gotten them back on the plantation?”

Yes. Happened yesterday.

http://theplumline.whorunsgov.com/terrorism/obama-tells-liberals-public-option-doesnt-have-votes/

“In a private meeting at the White House this afternoon, Obama told a roomful of House Dems he doesn’t think the votes are there to pass the public option, and urged them to take the long view and to support the Senate bill as merely the beginning of reform, Dem Rep Lynn Woolsey tells me.

blah-blah

“He encouraged us to understand that this is the beginning of health care reform, not the end of it — and that we will fix it later, as we have with Social Security and Medicare,” she continued.

“He doesn’t believe the Senate has 51 votes for the public option,” Woolsey said, characterizing Obama’s remarks to the assembled.

But Woolsey says she’s now a definite Yes on the Senate bill, provided the reconciliation fix is adequate, even if it lacks a public option.”
