Sorry, I’m probably missing something. Where/How did Jim “say” this ... looking for the background of your thread. Thanks.

This is THE battle right now. We need to convince the House democrats that there is NO WAY reconciliation will ever give them what they want.

Obama’s only chance at a bill is to convince the House that reconciliation is a done deal, so they will vote for a Senate bill they hate.

But once the Senate bill is passed, it’s too late — Obama has the bill he likes, and the reconciliation might only make the bill BETTER.

So the key is to make sure the house knows reconciliation won’t work. If they don’t believe they will get reconciliation, they won’t vote for the Senate bill.

One line of argument to use: The Senate will promise the house to pass reconciliation. But Reid promised 9 democrats special items in the bill in order to get their votes, and the reconciliation vote will repudiate those promises. Those 9 senators, who were sure they wouldn’t lose their promised items because they could vote down any changes, are being told their votes aren’t needed.

Well, so we know Reid either lied to those Senators, and will now screw his colleagues, or he is lying to you HOUSE members when he promises to change the bill to something the senate DOESN’T support, and that will screw his friends in the senate.

Who do you think Reid is more likely to screw over, his senate buddies he made promises to, or you house chumps who want to break his “perfect” senate bill?

Here’s the “bad scenario” for Republicans, the one we hope the Democrats can’t figure out:

The House, stupidly believing the Senate will pass reconciliation, goes ahead and passes the Senate bill as-is. Obama signs it. At that moment, Obamacare is a REALITY. Nothing else matters.

However, because the democrats want to try to save their skin, they now make a new bill, “fixing” all the bad things in the Senate bill. They make it all about “budget”, and dubiously call it Reconciliation.

Let’s suppose Pelosi grows a brain, and adds the Stupak amendment to that bill. It also fixes the payoffs in the current law (remember, it’s a law now), and also adds the 4 republican ideas Obama mentioned.

The house squeaks out another 216-215 vote for this reconciliation measure. It goes to the senate.

OK, in that scenario, how do you, as a conservative, ask your senator to vote? Remember, Obamacare is LAW. All you are voting on now are 4 republican ideas for health care, the stupak amendment to ban federal funding for abortions, and removal of the doc fix and other payoffs you have complained about for months.

How do you vote NO to this reconciliation — it has everything in it you want, and makes the evil Obamacare LAW a little bit less evil. Voting no doesn’t stop Obamacare, it’s already law. All voting NO does is make the house democrats pay for trusting the senate — at the expense of funding abortion, leaving in the bribes, and refusing to enact republican ideas.

If the house democrats realize that in the end, the republicans can’t stand against a well-written reconciliation bill, they might have the courage to vote for the senate bill.

That’s why the key now is to show exactly how we are going to stop reconciliation from doing what the house democrats want. If they are convinced reconciliation will fail, they won’t vote for the senate bill. But if they ever are convinced to take the chance on the senate bill, the act of them PASSING the bill might make reconciliation more likely.

the Dems don’t care and that’s the scary part. They are fanatics and this is their religion. It’s worth it to them to achieve their Holy Grail.

I don't believe house dems will vote for a bill that will tax union "cadillac" plans. That would change November from a landslide to a political tsunami. And unions are not the only factions that would become even more infuriated.

Pelosi must be having trouble rounding up the votes or they would of already done that a month ago. I agree that was their strategy but SanFranNan hasn't been able to get the votes together.

Abortion changes do not belong in a reconciliation bill, and the parliamentarian knows it. If Biden overruled the parliamentarian on that, he would be asking for political war.

She will try to "explain" to Stupak that the senste bill's abortion language is "good enough." Stupak, who very carefully worded the abortion language in the house bill, so far, isn't buying it.

Thanks so much, onyx. I heard DeMint on Greta last night, and completely agree that he has been a hero in this fight.

And thanks for the numbers. Pelosi will bribe, cheat, steal, break laws, whatever she can to get the ring.

Entitlements don't go away. This MUST NOT PASS!

It has been a long time since my Civics class but as I remember, once BOTH bodies of Congress pass a bill, it goes to the president for his signature. There was no “reconcillation” deal to consider.

Anyone else remember it this way?

They introduced ‘reconciliation’ to pass the budget. It’s fairly recent, in the last decade or two I think.

With the exception of FBI, CIA, and NASA, eliminate all the other departments and agencies, and throw the burdens back to the states.

Cut Federal taxes 90%.

I like the way you think.

TRI CARE FOR LIFE This from a google search:
http://economicspolitics.blogspot.com/2009/05/tricare-for-life-is-obama-trying-to.html

This option would help reduce the costs of TFL, as well as costs for Medicare, by introducing minimum out-of pocket requirements for beneficiaries. Under this option, TFL would not cover any of the first $525 of an enrollee’s cost-sharing liabilities for calendar year 2011 and would limit coverage to 50 percent of the next $4,725 in Medicare cost sharing that the beneficiary incurred. (Because all further cost sharing would be covered by TFL, enrollees could not pay more than $2,888 in cost sharing in that year.) http://www.cbo.gov/ftpdocs/99xx/doc9925/12-18-HealthOptions.pdf

Congress plans to block Tricare fee increases

http://www.navytimes.com/news/2009/10/military_tricarefees_blocked_100709w/

By Rick Maze - Staff writer, Oct 7, 2009

Tricare fee increases imposed last week by the Defense Department will be repealed by a provision of the compromise 2010 defense authorization bill unveiled Wednesday by House and Senate negotiators.

The fee increases were announced on Sept. 30 and took effect on Oct. 1, but the defense bill, HR 2647, includes a provision barring any fee increases until the start of fiscal 2011.

Retired Army Maj. Gen. Bill Matz, president of the National Association for Uniformed Services, said the announcement of fee increases was shocking considering that the Obama administration promised earlier this year to hold off on any new fee Tricare fee increases until fiscal 2011.

“President Obama and DoD assured NAUS and the entire military family earlier this year that there would rightly be no increases in any Tricare fees” in fiscal 2010, Matz said. “We took them at their word, and I can’t believe that a co-pay increase like this was allowed to go forward,” he added.
