My colleague Ben Smith has word this morning of a video from the Liz Cheney-backed group Keep America Safe questioning the loyalty of Justice Department attorneys who previously represented Guantanamo detainees.
The video provocatively calls a group of such lawyers whom Attorney General Eric Holder has failed to name despite repeated Republican requests: "The Al Qaeda 7."
The challenge is prompting outrage from some working on Guantanamo issues.
"This is plainly unacceptable in the United States," Ken Gude of the Center for American Progress, wrote in an e-mail this morning. "Condemnation is not sufficient. This is pure McCarthyism."
It's worth noting that even the Bush/Cheney Administration didn't have much tolerance for public attacks on the loyalty of lawyers representing Guantanamo detainees. In 2007, Defense Department detainee affairs chief Charles Stimson made similar comments, calling for a boycott of firms handling such cases, often pro bono. The Pentagon publicly distanced itself from Stimson's statements, which were condemned by a broad array of voices in the legal community. Stimson eventually apologized and resigned a short time later.
It seems to me the issue of DOJ stonewalling the request for the lawyers' names is a separate one from whether their previous work represents a conflict or an act of disloyalty. It is hard to square the refusal to produce the names with the Obama Administration's public commitment to transparency.

Even though the McCarthyism charge is nonsense, it is better than being accused of McCainism.
Like McCarthy was wrong about communists.
Now we have a communist for a president. That’s right, OBama, you ARE a Bolshevik!
Leftico nutters are and that Liz outed their fellow radicals .
This Soro front group will not allow dissent.
I do not need some socialist from John Podesta’s Center for America Progress telling me what is and is not “acceptable in America.” I trust Cheney, I don’t trust them. The White House and the Justice Department have demonstrated even more unbelievably bad judgment with those appointments and all the butt covering in the world from K Street can’t rescue them and bury this story. Why not just give Al Qadda a seat at the Justice Department conference table, while we’re at it?

(prior to the election)
"The Communist Party USA views the 2008 elections as a tremendous opportunity to defeat the policies of the right-wing Republicans and to move our country in a new progressive direction.
The record turnout in the Democratic Presidential primary races shows that millions of voters, including millions of new voters, are using this election to bring about real change. We wholeheartedly agree with them."

After the election....
A Landslide Mandate For Change
A breakthrough election
Congratulations on an extraordinary history making election!
We can think back with pride to decades of hard work toward our strategic goal of a big enough, broad enough and united enough labor and all-peoples movement that could overcome the ultra-right blockage to all progress. That all peoples movement has come to life, it is dynamic and it has the potential to keep growing.
The election of Barack Obama and a strengthened Congress creates new conditions in our country. There is now the possibility to shift gears and move forward. This new day requires us to further develop our tactics in order to continue to deepen and broaden labor and peoples unity.
There are thousands of experiences that we all have had in these momentous days, some large, some small, all of which express the enormity of change in thinking and readiness for involvement that is underway and that steels us for the battles ahead.
The tears of joy we all shared as crowds gathered to watch the election results here and throughout the world dramatize the new moment we are in.

Change is Here, Change is Coming
Sam Webb, National Chair, Communist Party, USA:
Let me begin with a simple observation: If the last 30 years were an era of reaction, then the coming decade could turn into an era of reform, even radical reform. Six months into the Obama presidency, I would say without hesitation that the landscape, atmosphere, conversation, and agenda have strikingly changed compared to the previous eight years.
In this legislative session, we can envision winning a Medicare-like public option and then going further in the years ahead.
We can visualize passing tough regulatory reforms on the financial industry, which brought the economy to ruin.
We can imagine the troops coming home from Iraq and Afghanistan while U.S. representatives participate in a regional process that brings peace and stability to the entire region.
In the current political climate, the expansion of union rights becomes a real possibility.
Much the same can be said about winning a second stimulus bill, and we sure need one, given the still-rising rate, and likely long term persistence, of unemployment.
Isnt it possible in the Obama era to create millions of green jobs in manufacturing and other sectors of the economy in tandem with an attack on global warming?
Cant we envision taking new strides in the long journey for racial and gender equality in this new era, marked at its beginning by the election of the first African American to the presidency?
And isnt the overhaul of the criminal justice and prison system a system steeped in racism no longer pie-in-the sky, but something that can be done in the foreseeable future?
All these things are within reach now!

Obama Espoused Radical Views in College [advocated communist revolution]

Dr. John C. Drew, a grant writing consultant in Laguna Niguel, Calif., tells Newsmax he met Obama in 1980 when Obama was a sophomore at Occidental College in Los Angeles. Drew had just graduated from Occidental and was attending graduate school at Cornell University.
During Christmas break, Drew says he was at Grauman-Boss home in Palo Alto when Obama came over with Mohammed Hasan Chandoo, his roommate from Pakistan.
Barack [Obama] and Hasan showed up at the house in a BMW, and then we went to a restaurant together, Drew says. We had a nice meal, and then we came back to the house and smoked cigarettes and drank and argued politics.
For the next several hours, they discussed Marxism.
He [Obama] was arguing a straightforward Marxist-Leninist class-struggle point of view, which anticipated that there would be a revolution of the working class, led by revolutionaries, who would overthrow the capitalist system and institute a new socialist government that would redistribute the wealth, says Drew, who says he himself was then a Marxist.
The idea was basically that wealthy people were exploiting others, Drew says. That this was the secret of their wealth, that they werent paying others enough for their work, and they were using and taking advantage of other people. He was convinced that a revolution would take place, and it would be a good thing.
Drew concluded that Obama thought of himself as part of an intelligent, radical vanguard that was leading the way towards this revolution and towards this new society. ..."
Referring to Obamas quote from Dreams of My Father that he associated with Marxist professors, Drew says, What hes not saying is that he was in 100 percent total agreement with those Marxist professors. When you understand that, Obamas later associations and policies make more sense, including why he was taken in by Rev. Wrights ideology.

Three separate quotes from the article...
"They [Republicans] had hoped to hear President Obama repeat what President Clinton said in his State of the Union address in 1994: "The era of big government is over." But the president disappointed them."
"We would probably have to go back to Franklin Roosevelt to find a president who has the trust of our nation's multi-racial, multi-national, male-female, young and old working class as President Obama does."
"This president can be a transformative leader (he has that potential in my view), but only if he embraces and fights for a transformative agenda."

LMAO!
Mcarthyism....right up there with Racism as the last arguement of a fool.
Can’t these morons come up with something a little more original?
Good Lord!
Holder’s firm got a boatload of AQ agents released from prison, and he brought those attorneys with him into the Justice Department. He now plans to prosecute AQ agents.
No, I don’t trust him, or them. His greatest dream has been to put, not AQ, but Bush and Cheney on trial. So, yes, I think there is a conflict of interest here. But when you elect marxists into high office, you get what you get.
Obama’s White House Counsel comes from the firm that got Bin Ladin’s bodyguard released from jail. So the poison goes all the way to the top.
McCarthyism = Great patriotism, self sacrifice and near 100 % accuracy in identifying Communists bent on the destruction of the American way of life.
Liz should say:
“Why, thanks for the nice compliment. Thank you very much.”
There traitors say that like McCarthyism was a bad thing.
I sincerely hope that group is GUILTY of McCarthyism.
Don’t forget, McCarthy was proven right, and his bad reputation is mostly because of propaganda smears directed against him but those he exposed!
There = These
That's right. McCarthy may have been a loud-mouth and a drunk, but he also happened to be on the right side of history. Virtually everything he alleged, turned out to be true.
Like McCarthy was wrong about communists.
Now we have a communist for a president. Thats right, OBama, you ARE a Bolshevik!
EXACTLY! McCarthy was right!
The only things I see wrong with Liz’s statement is that she forgot include Holder.
Joe McCarthy was a true American patriot, and if you’re not patriotic, you’re nothing !
