The late Alexander Haig blamed George H.W. Bush for the world's dim view of the United States' after the collapse of the Soviet Union, saying the former president misread world events, refused to get rid of Iraq's Saddam Hussein and squandered America's dominance.

In never-before-published excerpts from a July 2000 interview with Fox News' James Rosen, Haig, who as Ronald Reagan's secretary of state famously declared he was in charge after the president was shot, said the former President Bush didn't see the mayhem emerging from the end of the Cold War and undermined the coalition by not removing Hussein at the end of the 1991 Gulf War.

Bush was indeed easily manipulated by the NEW YORK / WASHINGTON DC media.

I only hope the media ministries of deception and propaganda will DIE. And soon.

famously declared he was in charge after the president was shot,

He said "As for now, I’m in control here, in the White House, pending the return of the vice president and in close touch with him. If something came up, I would check with him, of course.”

I have to say I am having trouble disagreeing with most of these statements.

It really says something that Bush 41 wouldn't even make the Mount Rushmore of terrible 20th Century Presidents.

But of course many people (libs/moderates) I talk to say that Bush 41 was the ‘good’ (or at least OK) Bush.

I have no water to carry for Al Haig, but I heard that comment of his on the news at the time. I never thought he meant he was the successor to the president. I always thought he was simply letting people know, AN AN GOOD MILITARY OFFICER WOULD, that the post wasn't abandoned, but that a responsible person was there as OIC.

it seems he was a bit of an egomaniac. then again, it seems all of his comments in this interview are spot on.

all freepers should read the whole interview. this is one guy who understood the entire soviet union and communism. he never flinched.

"As of now," Haig said, "I am in control here in the White House, pending the return of the vice president and in close touch with him (Vice President George H.W. Bush was flying back from Texas). If something came up I would check with him, of course."

Bush1 gave us Clinton, and Bush2 gave us Obama. I don’t think I’ll want to take a chance on Jeb....

General Haig participated in seven Korean campaigns, including the Battle of Inchon, the Battle of Chosin Reservoir and the Evacuation of Hungnam.

He earned the Silver Star for heroism and a Bronze Star with Valor Device.

As a battlefield Lieutenant Colonel, he was awarded the Distinguished Service Cross, the nation's 2nd highest medal, for heroism (fighting in hand-to-hand combat in human-wave assaults).

He was also awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross and the Purple Heart.

He is a true hero in the American pantheon of heroes.

The pansy media hated him. The pansy media-types hate war, Republicans and the military. A genuine hero is anathema to them.

General Haig died on February 20. I expect his deconstruction by the media to begin any time now that he's in a resting place for America's bravest.
