President Barack Obama is using nicotine replacement therapy to help himself quit smoking, according to the results of his physical exam released Sunday.
Navy Capt. Dr. Jeff Kuhlman examined Obama at the Bethesda Naval Medical Center in Maryland Sunday morning and recommended that the president "continue smoking cessation efforts."
Obama's opponents and some in the press raised his cigarette smoking as an issue on the campaign trail. Last June, Obama called himself a "former smoker" who occasionally "slips up" and has a cigarette, but never in front of his family.
Otherwise, Kuhlman noted that Obama is in "excellent" health and is "fit for duty" and is expected to remain that way for the duration of his presidency.
Doesn't he know they can smell it on his breath, even with mouthwash?
hahahah ! lol
Obama: I picked the wrong year to quit, uh ...

The patch works quite well, i smoked a couple of patches in traffic last Friday.
It says on the *nicotine replacement* box, not to smoke while using this product.
Quitting is a lot harder than that
Send cartons of his fav brand to the WH.
Congratulations! It will be a year smoke-free on March 29th. The best thing I’ve done for myself.
As a replacement for what? Competence? Common sense? Humility? Extemporaneous speaking ability?
Those are all areas in which he is severely lacking, but I don't see how nicotine use can help him improve?
What a weakling - when I quite smoking in January 1989 I just quit - I didn’t use any crutch; didn’t gradually tapper off; didn’t employ any type of an excuse. I just quit - cold turkey.
Since when does a Doc do a “Physical” on Sunday?
Good luck to you Mr. President, but I don’t know why he does not try Chantix. Many people I know who smoked, do not anymore because of it.
‘Otherwise, Kuhlman noted that Obama is ...”fit for duty” ...’
Fit for duty as what? Maybe a lawn ornament.
Obama has a new country & western song.
One puff
One snort
One beer
Pretty much every person I know of under 50 (and some that are over 50) that smokes is either a pot head/coke head/pill popper or alcoholic.
I quit 2 years ago by setting down the pack of half smoked cigs and that half pack is still sitting alongside the computer!Interesting: Same here! I had a stomach flu in 2004 that was so bad that I didn’t want to smoke for a day (that means it was very, very, very bad!). After another day, I thought: “Hey, good opportunity to quit!” So I did. I left a half-open pack lying on the living room table, for months, without touching it. Eventually I tossed it. I keep thinking that letting it there on the table was a great help. It’s like saying: “Do you want to quit? Then you should be able to do it with a half-open pack lying around. Because if you can’t resist that, you do not really want to quit after all, so why bother.”[…]
That's exactly how I quit.
I never touched a cigarette again. I still miss smoking sometimes, but I am very confident that I will never start again. Walking behind a smoker on the sidewalk is as much joy as I am going to allow myself ;-).
