When we see these events occurring in increasing frequency it is because these are the "birth pangs" that we have been told by Jesus Christ Himself - would happen closer together in time as do the birth pangs of a woman in labor. The closer she gets to giving birth, the worse the birth pangs become and the closer together they come.

There was nothing in Scripture before Christs birth to say His birth and second coming were 2 events - which is one reason why many Jews of the time missed His Birth. They did hot understand Christ would come first as a suffering servant and again some 2000 years later as the conquering King. They were looking for one coming and missed the entire point.

Same situation exists now - many Christians (and I was one for many years) see one coming of Christ at the end of the age -not two separated by a small space of time. I cannot express the blessing to my faith of understanding the Rapture and prophecy - I had been taught for the first 35 years or so of my life that prophecy is unknowable, and the fact of His return is the only important thing. Why then is Revelation the only book of the Bible that promises a blessing to those who read it?

HOWEVER - the study of prophecy has enriched my life and faith immeasureably, BUT it is not a SALVATION issue. I just can’t wait to see the looks on all those Christian’s faces who pooh poohed the Rapture when it actually happens!

Uh, there were many Jews at the time who did see that the scriptures foretold his birth, his suffering servanthood, his death numbered among criminals, and his resurrection, and recognized, as he did himself, that these events preceded his return as the conquering Lord. And, for the record, there was every bit as much in the scriptures about his birth as a human baby and his suffering for his people as there was about a Messiah who would kick every nations' ass and make them subject to his rule through Israel. The problem with some first century Jews was that they were letting their immediate political concerns override their understanding of prophecy.

You chose a very inapt analogy. I'm not denying the return of Jesus and his gathering to himself of his saints, both dead and those then living. The church since the beginning has always taught this. Some in the past 210 or so years have claimed a novel twist that is not taught in scripture that has come to be identified with the term "the rapture." If you're claiming that this novel twist is some sort of new revelation from God (as some major figure did back in the 1800's, either Moody or Scofield), then it has to be at least consistent with what is already described in the New Testament. It's everything but consistent, relying on special, ad hoc, definitions to try to interpolate itself in such a way as to not contradict what is already there. It fails miserably in the attempt.
