Good question. My dad was a superintendant during the construction of a large dam northeast of the epicenter near the city of Talca. If that has structural problems - look out.

I was saying that they don’t get that much bigger than this although Chile holds the record with a 9.5. Still anything over 8.0 is going to cause total damage over a wide area. Luckily this area is very mountainous so that may break up the tremors.

If it is 1.3 meters at sea that could be very big at landfall.
If it is 1.3 meters at the shore where it struck, that doesn’t seem like much.
Now matter how you look at it, an 8.8 is huge.
