On the radio KFI LA..
More rumbling ...
32nd major aftershock, magnitude 5.2, centered off Maule shore of #Chile - U.S. Geological Survey
Something seems to be settling there, about every 5 mins sees a 5.X aftershock.
Two minutes?! Wow - that's an eternity, especially at mag 8.8 (which I can't even imagine). It's amazing one stone is still on top of another there.
monster
somebody pick up the Mayan hotline.
It wouldn't be the first time
it's not 32 plus 32; it's 32 TIMES 32. So an 8 is roughly 1,000 times stronger than a 6.
Thank you both for the correct correlation. Having lived through a 7.2, an 8.8 is almost unimaginable.
They are much more frequent.
33rd major aftershock, magnitude 5.5, centered off Bio-Bio shore of #Chile - U.S. Geological Survey
The Mayan civilization was in Central America. Chile was home to the Inca’s.
Sounded like a Mayan calender, 2012 reference to me.
The 1960 9.5 Richter scale quake was preceded the day before with a 7.0 quake.
Hmmmmm.....
“If ANYTHING happens in WA, itll be at Long Beach, Ocean Shores, etc. They are exposed to the Pacific”
I am 20 miles inland from Ocean Shores, still close to sea level and less than a mile from the harbor. I have loved ones working today just south of Pt. Grenville, about 20 miles north of Ocean Shores.
I am going to watch what happen in California today, if it looks bad, we’re heading for the Olympic Mountain range.
Until it happens in our own backyard, there will be skeptics.

Video looks like my typical home video, I’m not good at holding my camera steady. :-)

People in low lying parts of Banks Peninsula are advised to prepare to evacuate their homes by 8am on Sunday because of the tsunami warning.
Waves up three metres high could arrive along the east coast of New Zealand following a magnitude 8.8 earthquake in Chile.
Civil Defence says the first waves are expected in the Chathams at 7.22am on Sunday.
Banks Peninsula residents may not be able to return hole for at least 24 hours and should take with them any essential medicines and baby needs.
As well, they should take important documents, a batteries-powered radio and torch bottled water, and extra clothing and footwear.
Civil Defence warns the first waves to hit the entire east coast of New Zealand and may arrive later than forecast, and may not be the largest.
It says strong currents and unusual tidal effects may continue for several hours.
Acting National Controller of Civil Defence Alan Walker says there are already many reports of people sightseeing in Canterbury. They are warned to stay away.
Farmers are advised to move stock to higher ground.
