Glenn Beck tonight: "I contend that most people are libertarian"
02/26/2010

Posted on 02/26/2010 2:51:42 PM PST by Brugmansian

Beck just said he thinks "I contend that most Americans are libertarians because they want that freedom . . ."

So why don't they vote that way Glenn? Why do we have abortion laws? Why aren't drugs legal? Why do voters reject gay marriage? Why do we have laws regulating banks? Why has every proposal to privatize Social Security much less abolish it been rejected? Why do we have "entangling" foreign relationships? Why do we have trade and immigration laws?

Glenn has a schtick like O'Reilly in that regard. They'll both dither and cluck about both parties while the dems run us off the cliff.

I like the Rush buzzer myself..........

“Glenn is right.”

No..Glenn isn't “right”. He's an idiot. A Megalomaniacal, Spotlight-hungry whore who's desperate to be relevant. Peter Schwartz years ago in his article “Libertarianism: The Perversion of Liberty” exposed these people for what they are: anarchists, plain and simple. Their criteria is a love of “liberty” with no definition of, or adherence to, such a term.

Those of us who were disappointed in the Libertarian slant at CPAC were smacked down here at FR because of our views. This is proof positive that we were right and Glenn has an anti Conservative bent demonstrated in his show tonight. He even joked about who would want to be a Cons. because of people making fun of us. I don’t mind opening up the big tent to Libertarians, but I will not be pushed aside by there nitwitery of legal drugs and no foreign policy.

A lot of people are Libertarians until they want something from government.

Beck projects his weaknesses onto his viewers, as if his problems were/are everyone’s problems.

Well half the country seems to be addicted to government handouts, they are a problem to those of us who aren''t.

Just sayin

Wondered how long it would take for simpleltons (sic) to latch onto that part of the statement.

A personal attack right out of the gate. Don't accuse me of being a "simpleton".

He is right in one respect: There is no coherent "libertarian" philosophy, and most Americans have no coherent political philosophy at all. In that regard most Americans are (like) libertarians.

Most people want libertarian treatment for themselves and strict law enforcement applied to those they don’t agree with. Thus the dilemma we find ourselves in - the State keeps getting bigger because everybody wants somebody else punished.

Is it possible to be a fiscal Libertarian, but a social and national defense Republican?

Nope, I am a conservative.

Same here. Contractual agreements aren't enough. One general principle and "reason" cannot perfect man or society. Culture, not law or lack of law, is what does or does not ensure a successful society.
