WASHINGTON - President Obama ended Thursday's daylong White House summit with a bang, threatening to push for passage of health care reform without Republican support if a bipartisan agreement remained out of reach.
"If we're unable to resolve differences over health care, we will need to move ahead on decisions," he said, alluding to using reconciliation, a controversial maneuver that prevents a GOP filibuster by requiring only 51 votes to pass legislation.
Obama added that if voters are unhappy with results, then "that's what elections are for."
Obama thanked the three dozen lawmakers who participated in the summit, though the meeting didn't appear to bridge the differences between the two parties.
Republicans remained adamant that their incremental approach reflected the will of the people and wouldn't break the bank while Democrats insisted that sweeping health care reform was the only way to fix the system.

I have a question for Republicans and honest Democrats (if there are any of the latter). How can they stand to be in the same room with this smug, condescending, arrogant, little twit? The last ten minutes of the charade this afternoon tells you all you need to know about this creep and what he’s up to. Lecturing Republicans, threatening the nuclear option if they don’t toe the line and agree to the Democrat plan in the next month, talking down to them as if they are a bunch of morons. Insulting John McCain claiming he was still conducting the last campaign, etc., etc.
How on God’s green earth does this prissy pseudo intellectual with his dainty little hands and his chin up in the air all the time have any public support at all? He reminds me of the teachers’ pets that everyone wants to beat up on the playground. How does the average Joe or Jill out there stomach this guy? How?
He spoke longer than all of the Republicans combined. The Democrats gave themselves twice as much speaking time as the Republicans got. Why didn’t Republicans just interrupt him and tell him to shut up?
He shoulda kept his mouth shut and tried to jam it through on Monday.
Now we have enough time to contact everyone in America who ever attended a Tea Party, Town Hall, local planning meeting, PTA, Scout meeting, you-name-it and have them contact the 30 at-risk dems listed on dickmorris.com.
How long would it take to get the word out and have several million people swamp DC?
A big middle finger directed at all of us.
I have a feeling he doesn't have a plan, he just figured by brute force (and, of course, his "charm") he could shake loose some Republicans.
Now that didn't happen I assume his plan is to have Rahm meet privately with each wavering Democrat, just Rahm, the congressman, and Rahm's baseball bat.
Damn straight, Barry. And don't you, or your Rat and RINO buddies, forget it. We're coming for you this November and again in 2012, with our votes ready. And we're pissed off.

Sitting on a toilet, without a direct line to George Soros, Obama couldn't decide between #1 and #2.
Personally, I would look forward to having a punk like Rahm attempt to intimidate me.
That I do. But I also learned how to handle bullies well before I was out of 8th grade.
Rule number 1. Let them understand that you will not back down -- ever!
Rule number 2. They understand that even if they were to win the fight, they will get hurt. It will not be a painless experience.
Rule number 3. When they least expect it, you will get even.
Translate that from schoolyard bullies to hard ball politics, and it still works well.
But if someone wanted to take it further than slimy politics, yes, I still have the 2nd Amendment and would not hesitate to invoke it if necessary.
Obama added that if voters are unhappy with results, then thats what elections are for.
Impeachment will work also
If I'm one of those guys, the prospect of a decisive defeat in November sounds a lot scarier than anything Rahmbo might threaten, especially given his own precarious position.
I had 13 fights with the bully in my grammar school. I lost the first 12. Then I came up behind him and smashed his head into a steel basketball pole and he never bothered me again.
Ahhh... the old sucker pole treatment. Good for you.
He wanted other ideas.
I guess what he meant was, he wanted other ideas he agrees with.
Not surprised by this news.
sw
I’m with you.
He obviously has something more than voting in store for us. Executive order, most likely, followed by something nefarious He’s been recruiting heavily from among our youth and the non-producers who have a vested interest in seeing that their cable TV and cell phone bills continue to be paid by the rest of us; health care will just be icing on the cake for them.
