WASHINGTON -- Texas Rep. Ron Paul won the most support for the 2012 Republican presidential nomination in an unofficial straw poll of conservative activists attending the annual CPAC conference.
A libertarian who has railed against spending, Paul won the contest yesterday at the Conservative Political Action Conference with 31 percent backing.
Former Mass. Gov. Mitt Romney came in second with 22 percent, and former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin came in a distant third with 7 percent.
Fewer than a quarter of the 10,000 attendees participated in the balloting.

This straw poll was about as accurate as on line poll.

The Paul Bots are so successful in “freeping” polls that Ron Paul was voted the winner of the Carter/Reagan debate.

Ron Paul was at the very bottom of a long list of names on the straw poll taken at the GOP Caucus I attended last Saturday. Out of around 300 people there Paul got only 2 votes. And this is King County WA, where Paul favored better than other areas of the country om 2008.
Palin was way out in front and the winner.

Ron Paul is too old. At 74 he would be 77 years old by 2012.
And 82 years old before the end of a 4 year term.
My money will go to Sarah Palin.

Someday Republican’s are going to have to identify one or two SERIOUS candidates who can pass the laugh test at the national level.
It is quite possible that Newt has put enough distance between his personal baggage and the 2012 elections to be that candidate.

The best part is the CPAC audience booed when Paul’s name was announced. Rough crowd.

These Paul Bots were doing the same thing back in the 2008 election. Their playbook hasn’t changed a bit. Post skewed Polls on FR, and scour the web for any article cridical of the other candidates and spread those like wild fire. These were the onse most often attacking Fred Thompson here on FR, and they are doing the same to Palin.

Do you happen to know the details of his healthcare “compromise”?

This harkins back to 2008 when paulist got 50-60% in the polls the networks would have and wound up with 3% of the actual vote. Being fast on the dial does not generate any actual votes.

Instead of attacking the man and what they don't like about him, Conservatives and Republicans should focus on what it is about Ron Paul's politics and message that people are responding to.
Republicans lost their majority for a reason. If republicans are getting better pr lately, it's thanks to obama, Reid and Pelousy and not because of anything they have done.

See an earlier post (today) titled "Teaming up with Dems on Healthcare" (I believe). It links to an American Thinker article with more HC details.
I just don't like it when Newt goes out of his way to reach out to Dems...like in the CC couch commercial he did with Pelosi.

“
