Point of view from Kentucky (just south of Indiana):
“.....it [Indiana] is a red state, and theyre losing Evan....this could turn the Senate seat there back to a Republican!!!”
You are CORRECT on BOTH counts! Yippee!
What the commentator said regarding the retirement was that Bayh’s polling numbers were poor no matter which Republican opponent they would run against him. Even much lesser known Republicans, even UNKNOWN Republican candidates, polled better!

But...but...but...a KOS poll just a few days ago said Bayh was way, way ahead:
WASHINGTON More than half of all Hoosiers would vote for Sen. Evan Bayh, D-Ind., if Republican Dan Coats were on the ballot against him, a poll released Thursday says. The poll, taken as Coats was exploring a Senate campaign but before he had announced his candidacy, was conducted by Daily Kos/Research 2000 this week . . .

I'd rather the Rat thugs stayed in office. This is part of a systematic Democrat effort to run "blue dog" candidates who'll lie about how fiscally conservative they are, thus making them harder to defeat.

He can always ride to the rescue during a more socialistic election year.Or he can take Obambi on from the right in 2012, as Zero's political collapse has only just begun. Bayh has always fashioned himself as a "centrist", you know, and politicians like to plan ahead.

In one or two election cycles, a new kind of Democrat will come to fill these seats being vacated by crusty old Democrats. A new, extra nasty kind of Democrat who is Marxist and soulless.
What we are watching is a purge of the ‘gentle’ Democrat.

what is hysterical about this is that I KNOW years ago he was being groomed to run for President ....
He should have become a Republican.

"The sad thing might be these retiring rats could be now willing to fall on swords with extremely UNPOPULAR votes."
However, we now have 41 votes so as long as we can hold our RINOS (and Snowe and Collins are doing a good job so far) he can't hurt us as much.

The commentator who announced Bayh’s retirement on Fox News said that Bayh had been a possible running mate with Obama in 2008 and if Obama doesn’t see re-election, Bayh wanted to be free from any office to better be able to run for President in 2012.
