FROM THE INDIANA BOARD:
... posted that the deadline was Friday the 19th. I made a mistake. The 19th is the candidate filing deadline.

The ballot access CAN-4 petition deadline is TUESDAY the 16th!
And Monday is a holiday so all CAN-4’s MUST be at the appropriate county court house NO later then NOON TUESDAY!

That's what dad said too, but are there any loopholes and do we have the law to quote (use— release to media)

The commentator who announced Bayh’s retirement on Fox News said that Bayh had been a possible running mate with Obama in 2008 and if Obama doesn’t see re-election, Bayh wanted to be free from any office to better be able to run for President in 2012.

What does Bayh know that we don't?

Coats is a conservative and an EXPERT on Intelligence. He pushed conservative altrnatives to big government while in the Senate.

Along with Miss Marple’s keen observations, could he also have decided he didn’t want to risk losing? I mean, his win wasn’t a sure thing, right?

In Indiana, the Sec of State runs the Primaries, NOT THE PARTY.
No Candidate filed means the seat goes UNCHALLENGED in November!!!

According to the deadlines shown here

there is a deadline of June 30, 2010 "for the Democrat or Republican party to fill a vacancy on the general election ballot due to primary election ballot vacancy."

....so, I'm not sure.

Exactly! Bayh threw in with ZERO almost right away and he was perfectly content last year when they had the 60-vote majority. Now that Scott Brown is elected and most important is the fact Dan Coats is in the race, poor little Bayh is unhappy. I say good riddance.

I don’t know what the absolute is regarding a U.S. Senate seat election, but, I’m sure I’m not the only Hoosier who can recall other elected positions where a candidate has been named and placed on the ballot between the primary and general elections.
I suspect this is pretty typical FR getting our hopes all up over something all our resident experts will be proven to have been wrong about.
At times such as these we need the political equivalent of
strategerist on earthquakes to set us straight.

from hotair

“Ed,
I worked on getting McCain on the ballot in Indiana for the 2008 primary. I can tell you there it will be very very difficult to get this done in a few days. It took considerable resources for the campaign to get on the ballot there and we allocated a few months to do it. Even with having three full time staffers on it for several weeks, we barely made it. The signatures also need to be filed in each county’s election board of elections offices. Those are closed today. I don’t even know if they have the ability to get the hard copies of the petitions due to the holiday.

http://hotair.com/archives/2010/02/15/breaking-bayh-will-retire/

they will have to use the caucus process IF Indiana allows it.

They can only fill vacancies that occur AFTER the Primary, if an elected Primary Candidate shouls withdraw.

And with Republican Todd Rokita in Charge, you can bet that he’s not going to allow Massachusetts type political shenanigans by the Dems.

I posted this on the Indiana locale site:

His excuse is BS. He’s toast for supporting the HCR and Cap & Trade, despite the voters expressing an overwhelming sentiment against these measures. He isn’t running because he no longer represents the people of Indiana, but rather the Obama run Democratic Party.

Lugar is next! It’s time to kick these POS RINOs out!

The petitions circulated at the Indy Tea Parties for Bayh and Lugar had thousands of signatures against the HCR and Cap&Trade.

“In order to file for the Republican or Democratic primaries in Indiana, set for May 4, 2010, a candidate needs to deliver a petition containing at least 4,500 signatures including at least 500 signatures form each of the state’s nine congressional districts. According to the Indiana Secretary of State’s candidate handbook, those petitions can be delivered no later than tomorrow at noon local time.

“It appears unlikely that any minor Democratic candidate is likely to have acquired the necessary signatures by tomorrow’s deadline, leaving the Democratic primary ballot vacant for U.S. Senate.

One Democratic official said the state party will lean on a provision in state law that allows party leaders to select a candidate on their own in the case of a vacancy on a major-party line. Possible candidates include Democratic Reps. Baron Hill and Brad Ellsworth.”

I’m not sure if this clears up anything, but here it is for what it’s worth, from ABC News.

Do we have any IN lawyers on FR who can look up the law. Would in the on the Sec of State’s website? We really need to find out what the laws are and to quote thoses over and over again.

Yes, I believe you are correct. But is there a law that can be copy and pasted over and over again...sent to media etc. to get the message out.

This is a great way to start the week if you’re from Indiana, like me. Another socialist is leaving.
