Dick Cheney not sold on Sarah Palin presidency
The Christian Science Monitor ^ | February 14, 2010 | Jimmy Orr

Posted on 02/14/2010 10:51:45 AM PST by kingattax

Former Vice President Dick Cheney said he hasn't made up his mind who he will support in the 2012 presidential election. When asked if he thought Sarah Palin was qualified, he punted. ---

Is Sarah Palin qualified to be president? Former Vice President Dick Cheney answered that question with an artful dodge this morning when he appeared on ABC's This Week.(see video below) "I haven't made a decision yet on whom I'm going to support for president next time around," he said to host Jonathan Karl. "Whoever it is is going to have to prove themselves capable of being President of the United States."

"And those tests will come during the course of the campaigns obviously," he continued. "I think all of the prospective candidates out there have a lot of work to do if in fact they are going to persuade a majority of Americans that they are ready to take on the world's toughest job."

You didn't think you'd get a yes or no on that question, did you? Come on

I agree. Dick didn’t give the media what THEY wanted! He, also, knows they will insert what he didn’t say - chop it to bits - just like some here. They will get the answer THEY want one way or another.

Obama is an idiot who never got seasoning and we see the result (even his fellow Socialists are pissed at him). We are adults and whoever the candidate is will have to deal with a hostile press. Now is the time to learn how to do that, not during a campaign.

Give me a break. Any real non-RINO conservative Republican would have crushed the idiot Marxist Obama like a bug.

He’s a Washingtonian, simple as that. Love his Western toughness, though.”

That’s a very good point. I like Cheney a lot (foreign policy and a few other areas), but ideologically there are others out there I more closely align with. Overall, it’s his toughness and no nonsense, take no prisoners attitude I find the most appealing. However, he’s been around Washington a long long time and that’s not always a good thing.

However, she's not shown me that she's ready for CIC. “

And Barak “Read Miranda Rights to Terrorists” 0bama has?
Sarah Palin is ready enough to be CIC enough to know that you don't read Miranda rights to enemy combatants.

I don’t know anything about you, but I’m well aware that most of Palin’s critics apply exponentially increased scrutiny compared to their response to other politicians.

I would advise you that before you vote, you might want to develop an understanding of the fact that a particular degree of success, such as the ones Palin enjoyed in Alaska, is more than enough evidence that she knows what she needs to know without being given an ridiculously undprecedented level of formal reading assignments or exams.

And you might want to develop an awareness of the fact that you have assessed Palin’s level of knowledge without knowing what it is.

Sarah did that when she resigned and she continues to DO IT DAILY!! EVERYONE knows that - even the media! Hi MOM!

And time will tell, won't it? We have a looong ways to go and personally I am not caught up in Sara mania.

I have nothing against her, I even like her, but am far convinced at this point she is the one for the job.

We'll se where things are this time in 2011.

Hell, Sarah Palin almost did it herself despite the white haired old RINO weighting her down.

But don’t forget—Cheney is a real conservative but he’s been in Washington for multiple decades.

No, I would form my own conclusion using the normal process, then I would look at the opinions of others, even though their opinions are probably influenced to some extent by Washington. Then I would toss their opinion aside.

McCain was put up by Repubs as a throwaway candidate.

McCain became our candidate by letting the democrats and independents vote in our primary. No more complicated than that. If the republicans don't change the primary process I can see a Mitt Romney getting the nomination. I ain't voting for him.

I admit that running as VP McCain might have done better, Giuliani would have been a more serious contender were it not for the financial crisis, as might have Romney given what transpired. But what "non-RINO" do you think GWB would have put in a position of succession? I admit any of them would have been better than O.

Obama should have been stopped in IL. He would have won, but had the GOP expended some $$ he might have focused his effort running for the Senate rather than becoming a victorious national icon.

The entire interview was an effort by Jon Karl to bait Cheney into giving an answer that could be used against him, and the GOP more specifically. Cheney didn't play their game and never does. And that ticks them off.

Exactly...I think it's a mistake for people to keep comparing Palin to Obamo or Biden....this will not help for it indirectly puts Palin in their category of being ineffective.

Obama has proven to be less than effective in getting support from those that would persuade and get thru the agenda he wants.... where Palin has a strong background of overcoming and taking on big issues and was effective in doing so. Therefore it just isn't a good idea to wave she has more experience than Oboma. Effectiveness is a far better comparison.

I don’t know, but it’s a shame Bush/Cheney surrendered the opportunity at the start.

Nope. Not enough voters realized how "conservative" they actually were in November of 2008. You have to remember, Obama sold himself as a moderate, and voters believed him. Now they see that they aren't getting what they voted for, and the election will likely trend back toward the right for 2010 and 2012.

People everywhere were starry-eyed over Obama. No way was a Repub going to win. I'm glad they didn't waste a good candidate, intentional or not.

My argument is that she has not spoken, to date, in a manner that demonstrates she has acquired what myself and thousands (if not millions) of conservatives consider to be the basic knowledge portfolio of a competent CIC.

Again, I believe she is right on the issues, of fine character and a superb politician. It MAY be enough to put her over the top...but I don't believe it will.

Dick Cheney is a patriot and an honorable man but there's no question in my mind that come primary season, he'll back an establishment candidate...probably Romney. His daughter Liz has said nice things about Palin, but she's a Romney supporter also.

Dick Cheney worked for Gerald Ford and Bush41 and was Bush43's VP. He did not work in the Reagan administration (he was in Congress at the time). There's a pattern there.

You’re right. Sarah pulled McCain ahead for a period of time after his announcement of her as his running mate. Then as the financial crisis unfolded McCain true to form tried to position himself to the left of 0 especially during that second debate. He also had those dimwits Schmidt and Wallace running things into the ground from the inside. From that point on he was too busy trying to be the “reach across the aisle maverick” (which is about the biggest oxymoron out there). What a mess.

how can we stop the media?

The media doesn’t have it all their own way any more,
we must be vigilent and catch them at their game, expose
their tactics and reveal the truth to a populace hungry
for it. If we won’t fight back, we deserve what we end
up with.
