Police Officer jokes on Facebook about shooting gun rights advocates
American Thinker ^ | February 13, 2010 | Aaron Gee

Posted on 02/14/2010 12:25:52 AM PST by neverdem

It's being reported that a police officer from East Palo Alto joked about gunning down proponents of the second amendment on Facebook.  The article in today's Mercury News tells of the police officer in question joking about shooting someone as "2 weeks off".

After several more comments in the thread, Tuason apparently joked that officers should shoot the advocates, who have made recent headlines throughout the Bay Area for sipping coffee at cafes and performing other everyday acts with visible weapons.

"Sounds like you had someone practicing their 2nd amendment rights last night!" Tuason wrote. "Should've pulled the AR out and prone them all out! And if one of them makes a furtive movement ... 2 weeks off!!!"
The officer public remarks are causing a huge uproar at the popular calguns.net web site and among second amendment advocates.  Several blogs and other news outlets have already picked up the story.  Several members of the calgun.net website have filed complaints regarding the officers questionable comments with the East Palo Alto police department.

Will this be another Van Jones moment where the press ignores stories it doesn't like? The fact that I was alerted to this incident via email when I read the NYT, WSJ, and several other papers as part of my morning routine tells me that this story won't get much traction until it's so big the media can't ignore it.  How will this be spun by the media when they do finally cover it?  My bet's on the press story line going like this "Second amendment activists are dangerous and have no sense of humor, threaten police officer for making joke."

Here’s a link to this discussion going on at thefiringline.com. Interesting reading what shooters think of the whole deal.

ONLY A JURY can determine if he was JOKING, Stop using that word Please. HE MADE CRIMINAL TERRORIST THREATS against the PEOPLE. Let a JURY decide if it was a joke or not. Not that it matters, Because even JOKING about COMMITTING a TERRORIST ACT is a FELONY. Put This TURD in JAIL NOW

What would the police response be if a citizen joked about killing police officers?

I don't know about the police, but hollywood will make him a star.

Facebook is very useful as a means of exposing fools and unstable people.

It is very dangerous to have this man -- someone who jokes about killing law-abiding people -- removed from law enforcement.

I think he's shown himself to be a potential Amy Bishop.

If this officer should ever shoot someone -- or abuse someone -- the people of East Palo Alto ought to consider the payoff the victim or his survivors will bet from the lawsuit because of what he wrote unless they get rid of him very quickly.

Actually, if any gun rights advocates are looking for a quick buck they ought to go to East Palo Alto, show their weapons and follow the law to the letter. If mild police harassment might result in a tort-court payday based on this murderous moron's postings.

Along with your firearms bring video cameras.

Ahhhhhh, yes...The obligatory 4 star Amish general in charge of the publicss safety in such a small, concentrated hovel of humanity...

Apparently a new word needs to be learned by everyone in that municipalities electorate...

Its called “unemployment”...

Starting with that officer, and his chief...No if’s and’s or but’s...

But I seriously doubt there are any folks in that town that give a rats...So screw them...

Just my opinion...

WRONG, it is called JAIL.

ONLY A JURY CAN DECIDE IF IT WAS A JOKE, Even if it was it is STILL A FELONY TO JOKE ABOUT MAKING CRIMINAL TERRORIST THREATS!!!!

He’s an affirmative action hire.

I would hope so, if not whoever hired him should be fired.

Surely there is a criminal defense/injury lawsuit bar association in the area? They should be alerted.

Also the Headline is a little misleading, it should read::

You hit that nail on the head. Been there done that.

In August of 1985, I almost had to kill a Corpus Christi, TX cop. He was threatening to shoot everyone in sight. He declared war on the US and was taking back Texas for Mexico.

They didn't feel the cop should be held responsible because he was a “MINORITY” and he had an extremely serious drug problem.

They did throw him off the force 5yrs later when he raped a girl with his nightstick. The cops dope smoking buddy got himself 25yrs in a federal pen yrs a few years ago for child porn.

Sure, that can certainly be a possibility...

If the terroristic threat was directed at a specific individual, say the person on the blog who spurned this comment (terroristic threat) then yeah, that might be something to pursue...

But for our purposes, the continued posting of violent intent, made by a small segment of commissioned law enforcement personnel, over the years and across the country, is indicative of a need by government to police its own, and put that much pressure on the ones that have these opinions to just keep it to themselves and not be stupid enough to put them on a blog for EVERYONE to see...

But we all know that those types of law enforcement personnel are a protected class, and that those in charge of those folks are not going to do a damn thing about it...

So where does that leave us???

Pretty much in the same place we were before this happened...

It leaves us in a position where we still need to maintain our own decorum and attitude when we encounter law enforcement on the street...

The yessirs and nosirs, yes ma’ams and no ma’ams are still in effect...You garner the attention of law enforcement, and they step in to figure out the what is going on...We need to rise above this and understand that not all of them are like this...

But at the same time maintain our side of the equation and know that when seconds count, they are only minutes away...
