Rhode Island Democratic Rep. Patrick Kennedy, the last member of his illustrious family currently serving in Congress, will announce on Friday that he is retiring, according to Democratic insiders.
Kennedy, 42, was first elected to Congress in 1994. He did a stint as chairman of the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee in the 1999-2000 cycle but has not served in the House Democratic leadership beyond that.
His congressional tenure was marked by repeated substance abuse problems, including a drunk-driving incident in 2006. He entered a rehab facility at that time and again in 2009.
Sen. Ted Kennedy (D-Mass.), the congressman's father, passed away last year. Democrats unexpectedly lost his seat last month to Republican Scott Brown.

one of your best ones yet !
Back to alcohol anonymously for him.
Yea...Illustrious!!
As if he has anything better to do.
Well, actually he could take up daredevil driving, flying, or extrene skiing. All family specialties.
....and another one bites the dust! :D
the coward quits.....now he can get drunk and high every day.
Daddy can’t save him anymore cause he’s dead.
Can the Punk Band The Dead Kennedy’s with Jello come back without being harrassed? :-)
Thank you so much kingattax!
Were he a Republican, his resignation would have been demanded, and mostly by Republicans. But Dems have no standards or principles, so no resignation.
Actually, Camelot is for sale. AKA the rotting hulk of a compound once known as Hickory Hill. Home-site of the mythic Kennedy touch football games. On the market for many years, allegedly to cover the multi-million dollar payoff to the Kopechne family for their silence.
There have been no buyers.
Like the Kennedy legacy, Camelot decomposes into decay.
Now I know what Howie Carr will be talking about quite a bit on his show tomorrow.
How very true!
Ding Dong - the witch is dead, the wicked witch, the witch is dead! Bye bye Kennedys.
Buh bye Patches.
He’s been in congress since 94. He is going to retire at full pay. I know I could get by on $150k a year. If he wasn’t such a drunk he could make 10 times that as a lobbyist without even trying.
Make sure the door door hits you (Patrick) in the @$$ (spring loaded) on your way out !
I believe he would have won again, but he must have panicked and lost faith in his liberal community in RI. He should know that they would not vote out a Kennedy, or would they?
In reality, he retired at 22-assuming he didn't get someone to take his college tests.
