Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad announced Thursday that the Islamic republic has produced its first package of highly enriched uranium just two days after beginning the process. "We have the capability to enrich uranium more than 20 percent or 80 percent but we don't enrich [to this level] because we don't need it," he said in a speech broadcast live on state television.
"I want to announce with a loud voice here that the first package of 20 percent fuel was produced and provided to the scientists," he said, referring to the recently begun process of enriching Iran's uranium stockpile to higher levels.

Gads, they can’t even carry off a successful “punch” to the Great Satan . Everybody knew that they probably had already enriched uranium, so this is a real yawner.

I believe they need at least 92 percent to make things that go BOOM.
20% is considered to be weapons-usable.
And from what I have been reading, it is difficult to argue with that. It was probably true that this is a surprising scientific achievement for Iran.
You may recall Nutjob said something about this kind of thing when the last missile was put into space, the one last week with the worm and other critters.
Not two months ago, as a part of the ongoing negotiations to trade about 500 kg of very low enriched uranium for 20% uranium, for badly needed and legitimate, medical use, Iran had to disclose their average enrichment % for Russia and France to price out further enrichment.
Nearly all expected an enrichment between 4.5% and 5.5%. We know, from atmospheric, soil and tell-tale gamma radiation counters that Iran has no enrichment beyond 5.5%, of more than a 1 kg. sample.
Then, Iran stated their enrichment was 3.5%. Very surprising to most observers. So far Iran has refused to submit a sample in order to determine the level of Molybdenum contamination that France would have to filter out first.
Molybdenum is the key to all of this discussion. Moly atoms are about the same size as uranium and plug up centrifuges. We know the yellow cake Iran bought years ago was heavily contaminated with Moly. That same yellow cake was offered to many countries but but only Iran was dumb enough to buy it.
