Sorry to be a wet blanket, but someone has to do it.
The Miss Me Yet? billboard (inspired by Jonathan Maneys t-shirts) is cute. But lets not get carried away with nostalgia.
President Bush put America on the proper war footing after 9/11 and deserves much credit for doing so, but he also:
1) joined with open-borders progressives McCain and Kennedy to try to force shamnesty down our throats;
2) massively expanded the federal role in education;
3) championed the Medicare prescription drug entitlement using phony math;
4) kowtowed to the jihadi-enabling Saudis;
5) stocked DHS with incompetents and cronies;
6) pushed Hillarycare for housing;
7) enabled turncoat Arlen Specter;
8. nominated crony Harriet Myers to the Supreme Court;
9) pre-socialized the economy for Obama by embracing TARP, the auto bailouts, the AIG bailout, and in his own words:
Ive abandoned free-market principles to save the free-market system. George W. Bush
No, I dont miss having a corporate socialist Republican in the White House any more than I like having a corporate socialist Democrat in the White House now.
Most people, even those who agree with the points, see the shrill quality of her words and the complete lack of balance in it.
I'll use wardaddy's descriptor, meant for others, but perfect for Michelle Malkin. Shrew.
Angry, irrational, jealous, screeching.
There is no place for shrews in the conservative movement. Michelle needs to get her act together.
I was just discussing this very issue with one of the most conservative people I know, and the great frustration of sending conservatives to DC and having them become tainted by the inside the beltway mentality.
I think that the Tea Party movement, and the conservative awakening in the American people is bringing out some pretty solid conservative candidates who know going in that if they betray their conservative principles, they'll be ousted.
We've made great progress this year, and I'm pretty optimistic about the future.
The problems being perpetrated by the Marxists in DC now will not likely be fixed until long after I'm gone, but if we work together and get good candidates in who stick to their guns, we can start to turn things around.
With all this focus on Washington, the importance of local elections is sometimes underestimated. I am simultaneously working in a group to elect conservatives to state and local offices. I think what local governments do eventually trickles up.
The national elections are more interesting, but I completely agree that the local and state elections are every bit as important.
(2004, Ohio had a conservative Republican SoS, Ken Blackwell, who did a lot to stop the Soros/Kerry machine from stealing the Ohio election. Now we've got an awful Dem who worked with ACORN to elect Obama. State elections are critical!)
Yeah, I remember in 2004 Dems were claiming that they had 600,000 Dem votes not counted in Ohio :)
“Amazing to read conservatives attacking her”
Malkin is a doctrinaire conservative. I am not at all amazed ;-)
I think she did the party a service by writing it. That billboard while humorous may backfire.
We’ll have to continue to agree to disagree. ;d
Oops sorry.
For the record.
I support Michelle.
This is the usual claptrap here from the same folks who brooked no criticism when Bush was screwing up over amensty etc....and called in their harpie posse pell mell to try folks banned and they did with a few....me among them.
Thank God so many of them left in a huff over Giuliani..course we still have one rather vocal one left....but their power here is dead and stinking
I prefer the term harridan over shrew when applicable.
Make a list of RR accomplishments on various issues and compare them to GWB...unless you're afraid to.
Some things to remember...Reagan followed Carter, winning by a landslide in popular vote and electoral votes. Bush barely beat Gore, losing the popular vote and squeaking by with the electoral vote. Reagan had a mandate, Bush did not.
Reagan did not have to revamp his entire agenda as Bush did after 9/11.
The Democrats were far different in 1980 than 2000...there were a lot of southern conservative Dems.
Those are all huge differences.
Bush was never the orator that Reagan was...not even Obama approaches Reagan's connection with people. Bush couldn't help that, but I never bought the MSM play that he was incoherent (you shouldn't either). Bush plainly said what he meant....because people didn't listen was not his fault.
Compare the two's records, honestly compare them, then ping me back. I'd do it for you, but I do not wish to demean Reagan to prove GWB's conservatism....Maybe you could ask rab, he's good at running down Republicans for his own purposes.
ACORN on steroids...........and we still worked hard enough to have the best man win.
One of my proudest political moments. Key county, Key state, saved the country from John Kerry. :)
I'm good with that, Impy. :)
I just wanted you to know that whoever you meant it for didn't get it.
btw, are you seeing good conservative candidates in your local area? I've heard that all over the country good people are deciding to run, and I find that very encouraging.
Yes, in fact FReeper WOSG is running for state representative in a nearby district. I would vote to send him to Washington if he wanted to do that. Who knows how far he will go?
In national elections, I like Michael Williams for Kay Bailey Hutchison's senate seat.
Conservatives are energized, and it is SO good to see. I'm excited about the future.
It can get real nasty around here...I’ve been her for 10 years and have a core group I know and trust....some folks will turn on you here trust me
but...it is now much better than the old fights...the worm’s turned and more discussion is open...this cult of personality thing ahs waned and Giuliani really culled the moderates out
Does he need funding?
I think one of the best things in this new age of the Internet and the Tea Party networking is that we can help solid conservatives all over the country financially.
Like I said, these are exciting days to be a conservative.
Good mayor. BAD candidate for President.
Yep, it takes money to get your message out there.
If KBH loses the primary for gov. to Perry, I wonder if she will still resign her senate seat. I hope Williams is our next senator from Texas. We need new blood and new ideas. Williams could be the first successful black POTUS some day.
I agree, these are fun times to be conservative.
RE :”It can get real nasty around here...Ive been her for 10 years and have a core group I know and trust....some folks will turn on you here trust me’
They already do that to me now. The Bush-ies already hate me.
You have to have close friends here to survive, but I appreciate your saying it. I know exactly how you feel.
