Critics of Michael Steele's tenure as RNC chairman are motivated by racism, Steele suggested in an interview published today.
Speaking to the Washingtonian Magazine (no online version), Steele wondered why his DNC counterpart doesn't get the same criticism he does.
"I don’t see stories about the internal operations of the DNC that I see about this operation," Steele said. "Why? Is it because Michael Steele is the chairman, or is it because a black man is chairman?”
The RNC has experienced significant staff turnover since Steele became chairman, especially in the communcations shop. That has prompted speculation about Steele's management style.
Steele's comment about racism, however, will only further anger his Republican critics, who have lamented his repeated gaffes.

This is pre-emptive blackmail against losing his job. As soon as he’s sh**canned, he’s going to be on every alphabet network and enemedia outlet decrying how racist the GOP base is. Then he’ll write a book about it and do the tour all over again in time for the next election. Think Colin Powell II.

We conservatives do not care the color of your skin. We care about our Constitution and the teachings of our Founding Fathers. You do not. You push policies and people of “Democrat Lite.” Your belief in big Government, just run by you and your friends instead of the Dems, is what we do not like and will fight against.
Next. If you do not understand almost the entire press is so far to the left they will print, and keep printing, anything they can find that might put a bad light or a taint to the GOP. If they cannot find something they will make it up so you may as well get used to that fact rather than belittle your conservative base.
Also, if you think that putting us down will bring us in line like years before you are living in a fantasy world. Conservatives have awakened and are going to make the GOP into the conservative party our Country needs.
Your playing the race card is trite and tiring. If you help get REAL conservatives into the races they will win. History has proved it. Why are you so scared to win with conservatives rather than lose and be the minority party with the Rockefeller Republicans?
