WASHINGTON -- A Pennsylvania congressman and longtime friend of the late Rep. John Murtha said late Monday the congressman's large intestine was damaged during gallbladder surgery and the complications led him to be hospitalized.
The Pennsylvania Democrat died at Virginia Hospital Center in Arlington, Va., where he was admitted on Jan. 31. The gallbladder surgery was performed days earlier at the National Naval Medical Center, in Bethesda, Md., which didn't immediately return messages seeking comment.

Rep. Bob Brady said an infection developed and that Murtha had a fever when he was admitted to the Virginia hospital.
Brady called Murtha his "buddy" and says he'll remember him forever. "There will never be another Jack Murtha," Brady said. "He went out on top of his game."

We can only hope.
Isn’t that the same hospital Senator Joe McCarthy died in ?
Looks like John Edwards has some work
He sure did. He was quite the game player.
How ironic - a victim of government health care (and possible a corpseman).
I wonder if the Doc was a Marine?
...or who paid him off.
:)
Why didn’t the messiah lay hands on him? “Jack, we need your vote. Rise and go forth.”
On the other hand, being dead hasn’t stopped democrates from voting, has it?
Sure would like a wire tap on the call today between Dead Fish & Fast Eddie.
Ah, government health care! Too bad all of Congress doesn’t have it.
Good riddance to one of the most dispicable, miserable, commie pieces of excrement that ever crapped between two boots. My question is what level of hell does he end up in?
Prior service perhaps, but all medical personal, to include all physicians, who work for the Department of the Navy, actually work in the Navy. There are no Marine Corps medical MOS's, FWIW.
Cross that hospital off your list, that’s a simple operation these days.
Part of the free, premier care Congress gets. Sure to be a government inquiry over this.
In the real world its sad and condolences to his family, but to be real in the political arena its just one less corrupted politician to vote out.
To me he was one of those that would help you (veterans) to get your vote then stab you in the back. I lost respect when he said American troops where kicking doors in and committing cold blooded murder, and enabling our enemy’s propaganda machine and turning Americans against Americans.
It sounds like he developed sepsis. That is a horrible way to go, my mother had it twice, I wouldn’t have wished that on anyone. Prayers for his family.
I want to know who gets sued. Let me guess, me? I think it's the trial lawyers who are the real force stopping the public option. They'll get tort reform in a hurry if the taxpayers have to pay malpractice judgments directly, although we pay one way or the other either way.
