CNN) -- Rep. John Murtha of Pennsylvania, a longtime fixture on the House subcommittee that oversees Pentagon spending, died after complications from gallbladder surgery, according to his office. He was 77.
The Democratic congressman recently underwent scheduled laparoscopic surgery at National Naval Medical Center in Bethesda, Maryland, to remove his gallbladder. The procedure was "routine minimally invasive surgery," but doctors "hit his intestines," a source close to the late congressman told CNN.

Jack can now caucus with the Kennedys.
Since when do Democrats allow facts to get in the way?
And he can do so from his new mailing address in the Chicago graveyards.
laprascopic gall bladder surgery is risky on someone whom is obese. lets face it murtha was no skinny minny. It is unfortunate, but surgery carries risks. In 2009 I underwent laprascopic gall baldder surgery. In addition the doctors found 2 intestinal hernias and an intestinal blockage. after the surgery I felt great. But the surgeon when he opened me up he took the time to check and check the intestinal tract, that is how he found more than just a gall bladder problem. Instead of three laprascopic cuts, lo and behold three additional ones were made. surery was scheduled for 45 minutes, instead it turned out to be 2 hours long.
You are nicer than me.
They had to go reeeeeeealy deep with that fat bastard...
LOL! I was just getting ready to ask this.
While it is disturbing the doctors may have made a mistake, the fact CNN did not mention the “In Cold Blood” scandal is lame.
My mother used to say if you can't say anything nice you should not say anything at all. So let take a long moment of silence in remembrance of Jack Murtha.
He died again???? I thought I have already died earlier..
I may go to the funeral.
I want to make sure he is in the box. I bet they have to advertise in the Thrifty Nickel for pall bearers.
Oh, and condolenceances (sp) to the family
**laparoscopic surgery**
I’ve had it done. They fill your abdomen with CO2, then go in with a very small camera and tools through a small insertion to remove the gall bladder. You are sore for several days as the CO2 works it’s way out of your system, and your belly muscles ache from being extended.
Maybe he should have gotten CO2 credits before they began!
My condolences to his family.
It is my hope that we can do better in the next senator from the state of Pennsylvania.
I fully expect them to try to use this turn of events to their advantage, but doubt that they will get traction.
Killed, by the “best health care system in the world.” Was Murtha on the public option health care plan.?..
Oh wait, maybe he got the same medical care he was trying to shove down our throats. No thank you!
The hand of God reached across his distended body and touched the surgeon’s knife, guiding it to the filthy intestine which released its vile contents into the cavity of the evil Murtha, in one sweet stroke avenging the wrongs committed against so many of our great heroes in Iraq.
God rest his evil soul.
Murtha was the poster politician for term limits.
I’m thinking Karl Rove and George Bush are somehow responsible
>> died after complications from gallbladder surgery,
I have to admit, the boy DID have a lot of gall.
Won’t stop them from trying, which is my greater point.
