Breaking...
” According to state law, the governor has ten days once the vacancy is officially declared to decide on the date for the special election, which can come no sooner than 60 days following that proclamation.
That likely means the special election will be held on May 18, which is the date already set for federal primaries around the state. (Special elections costs the state huge sums of money and its likely that Gov. Ed Rendell will choose to go with an already established election day to save some cash.)”

Please be kind, we must rise above, remember his family.

That is right. The slander lawsuit will now proceed against the estate. Cool beans.
sorry for his family.
Excellent quote!
REP. JOHN JACK MURTHA: Well, Ill tell you exactly what happened. One Marine was killed and the Marines just said were going to take care we dont know who the enemy is, the pressure was too much on them, so they went into houses and they actually killed civilians. And, and
MATTHEWS:was this My Lai? Was this a case of when you say cold blood Congressman, a lot of people think youre basically saying you got some civilians sitting in a room around a field and theyre executed.
MURTHA: Thats exactly it.

POS
About as nice as it will ever get.
“I generally opposed what he stood for, but I imagine he was doing what he thought was correct.”
You are much too kind. His kind of politics reeks...and his attacks on the military were evil.
William Russell, Murtha's GOP opponent in the 2008 election, who was planning to challenge him again in November, asked in a statement Monday that people pray for the Murtha family and said his campaign would suspend activity for a few days.
"Regardless of your political position, you always knew Jack had an immense love and loyalty to his family and the residents of the 12th Congressional District," Russell said.

And from Bill's campaign website...

On behalf of Kasia and our entire family, I want to express our deepest sympathy on the passing of Congressman John Murtha. Todays news will be met with profound sadness by the hundreds of thousands of constituents he served in Johnstown and throughout the 12th Congressional District.
To Joyce, their children and grandchildren, we extend our heartfelt respect as you honor Mr. Murthas memory and reflect on his legacy in the upcoming days and months.
Sincerely,
Bill Russell
Lt. Colonel USAR (ret)
Over at HuffPo the mods are really screening the comments.
He doesn’t matter any more. You see what power the name of Kennedy had over events in Massachusetts. Lincoln said half jesting, the living dog is better than the dead lion. Neither Kennedy nor Murtha were lions, of course.
Even our enemies have somebody that loved them.
So.... that’s why!
It’s not like I said I would miss the guy.
The spiritual gulag has a new resident?
Never fear, he's answering to the big Marine in the sky. For everything we know he did and everything no one knows he did. I suspect it's going to be quite a long interview. My prayers are with the Haditha Marines today.
I'm certain that all the Freepers on this thread expressing their condolences are "all most" sincere!
If you want off my ping list get over it!

Hope you can get the word out. Maybe Palin’s PAC as she has a loud trumpet these days.
For such a routine procedure I’m surprised they lost the patient. I wonder if there was some malpractice.
