Great. Out of the frying pan and into the fire.

Now Mitch has a job to use as a stepping stone for either Governor or Senator.

He already had one. He wanted some real power I guess.

Hopefully the family name will lose it’s Luster when Mary is thrown out on her butt in 2014.

Is this good? No. Mitch had his primary cleared as a side deal of the Lousiana Purchase deal w Harry Reid.

Yet another reason to root for the Colts tomorrow.

NOLA Mayor is a dead-end for his career, short of a Cabinet post or Ambassadorship. He’s wanted out of the Lt Gov office for some time now, and he had ample opportunity to run for Governor. LA isn’t likely to elect another Dem Governor anytime soon, and Mary will be out after her current term, she’s worn out her welcome.

Department of Justice
Office of Public Affairs
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Friday, February 5, 2010
Justice Department to Monitor Election in Louisiana

WASHINGTON – The Justice Department today announced that it will monitor the Feb.6, 2010, municipal primary election in the city of New Orleans to ensure compliance with the anti-discrimination requirements of the Voting Rights Act of 1965. The Act prohibits discrimination in the election process on the basis of race, color or membership in a minority language group. Attorneys from the department’s Civil Rights Division will coordinate the federal activities and maintain contact with local election officials.

Each year, the Justice Department deploys hundreds of federal observers from the Office of Personnel Management, as well as departmental staff, to monitor elections across the country. To file complaints about discriminatory voting practices, including acts of harassment or intimidation, voters may call the Voting Section of the Civil Rights Division at 1-800-253-3931.

Visit http://www.justice.gov/crt/voting/index.htm for more information about the Voting Rights Act and other federal voting laws.

It seems in quite a few states, the “Lt. Governor” job isn't actually a separate office but simply an additional duty given to existing state Senate President (TN, NH, WV, etc.) or the elected Secretary of State (UT, HI) in which they are designated the authority to serve as acting Governor in the event anything happens to the Governor. Sorta like how Lisa Madigan is the elected Attorney General of Illinois but is also designated acting Lt. Governor since the official post is vacant until Jan.

Including Laudrieu, I would say the following state officials hold the post of Lt. Governor in their own right and not as an additional duty assigned to them in state government:

AL Folsom (D)
AK Campbell (R)
AR Halter (D)
CO O'Brien (D)
CT Fedele (R)
DE Denn (D)
FL Kottkamp (R)
GA Cagle (R)
HI Aiona (R)
ID Little (R)
IN Skillman (R)
IA Judge (D)
KS Findley (D)
KY Mongiardo (D)
LA Landrieu (D)
MD Brown (D)
MA Murray (D)
MI Cherry (D)
MN Molnau (R)
MS Bryant (R)
MO Kinder (R)
MT Bohlinger (R)
NE Sheehy (R)
NV Krolicki (R)
NJ Guadagno (R)
NM Denish (D)
NY Ravitch (D)
NC Dalton (D)
ND Dalrymple (R)
OH Fisher (D)
OK Askins (D)
PA Scarnati (R)
RI Roberts (D)
SC Bauer (R)
SD Daugaard (R)
TX Dewhurst (R)
UT Bell (R)
VT Dubie (R)
VA Bolling (R)
WA Owen (D)
WI Lawton (D)

I wonder how many states use the Illinois system of having the candidates run independently in the primary, but fused together as tickets in the general election? I would guess it's rather rare. I know 7 other states follow the Illinois system of electing our judges through partisan ballots that involve both primaries and general election.

I hope the state GOP does everything they can to play up the fact some criminal wholly unfit for the office is the RAT nominee for Lt. Governor. If I was Jason Plummer, I would immediately transmit a couple of letters and phone calls to Scott Lee Cohen inviting him on the campaign trail with me to town hall meetings so they could make joint appearances with voters and discuss their party's vision for the state. Heh heh heh. We need Cohen to be seen as the legitimate RAT nominee and the duly-elected choice of RAT voters — the longer he's around and the more that gets ingrained in voters minds the harder it will be to remove him from the ticket.

Of course the problem now is the state GOP doesn't have an official Governor nominee yet to exploit this issue. We need to make it all about Brady/Plummer vs. Quinn/Cohen in the voters minds. If you go to the state GOP website, they list both Dillard and Brady as their candidate for Governor until this election gets resolved:

http://www.weareillinois.org/learn/candidates.aspx

From what I've heard, Dillard says he's waiting until all the absentee, provisional, and overseas millitary votes are counted and will make a decision at that point. Even Dillard's biggest ally former Governor Jim Edgar, doubts they would be able to erase Brady's 406 vote lead until Dillard got like 90% of absentee ballots being cast for him in the six-way primary. Dillard better bow out gracefully after those absentees come in and Brady's still ahead, or conservatives need to start pressuring him and raise hell.

Truly sad that 60% of NOLA would vote for this Landrieu corruption, but not really surprising.

I want to say it’s SeaPort coffee, right? The chickory coffee they have out there (I love it). Better (IMO) than the canned Cafe Du Monde that I can get here.

My Grand-father-in-law is born and bred Cajun it’s in the blood. When I first met hubby I had to learn to cook creole and cajun food for him. His Grandmother (she just passed last year) spent two days teaching me to make a proper roux, etoufee, gumbo and how to make a real pot of coffee.

“I’m a bit surprised that no strong black candidate came forward. It must be because Landrieu was obama’s choice.”

More likely, it means that the idea that black voters will always vote for the back candidate is a bunch of BS.

Does anyone named Landrieu ever lose an election in Louisiana?

Is he a wife swapping, light skinned, non-retarded addict? Seems to be a resume enhancer in the Democratic Party these days.

My question exactly. Do we have a family run government here? What is his party? Same as the senator? God help us if they are family.

Do we have a Royalty run government here? What is the Royal party? Same as the Member of the Hose of Lords (Senate)? God help.

That sounds better.

Does he know the recipe for making chocolate?

Oh, yeah. Mitch's daddy was the last white mayor of that city until now, but he was also the first New Orleans "chocolatier".
