1. My life is likely to last 10-15 years. Any separation from you is likely to be painful.
2. Give me time to understand what you want of me.
3. Place your trust in me. It is crucial for my well-being.
4. Dont be angry with me for long and dont lock me up as punishment. You have your work, your friends, your entertainments. But I have only you.
5. Talk to me. Even if I dont understand your words, I do understand your voice when speaking to me.
6. Be aware that however you treat me, I will never forget it.
7. Before you hit me, before you strike me, remember that I have teeth that could easily crush the bones in your hand, and yet I choose not to bite you.
8. Before you scold me for being lazy or uncooperative, ask yourself if something might be bothering me. Perhaps Im not getting the right food, I have been in the sun too long or my heart might be getting old or weak.
9. Please take care of me when I grow old. You too will grow old.
10. On the difficult journey, on the ultimate difficult journey, go with me please. Never say you cant bear to watch. Dont make me face this alone. Everything is easier for me if you are there. Because I love you so.
Take a moment today to thank God for your pets. Enjoy and take good care of them.
Life would be a much duller, less joyful thing without Gods critters. Please pass this on to other pet owners.

Thank-you for your excellent posting Slings And Arrows. :)=^..^=
It is a good measure of a person’s character in how they treat their animals. Not talking about the people with mental problems that actually hurt their pets but think they are helping (ie hoarders), but the average person.
The thanks should really go to corbie, but I’m happy to steal the credit.
That’s beautiful. Thank you.
Okay for some reason I’ve been needing a good cry lately. Thanks for making that happen.
Someone should put this together as a blueprint for a Bible of sorts for how to properly deal with Animals. For the record, God did not give us animals so we could do whatever we want to them.
I'm always awed when I see my 120 pound Newfoundland mix eat
a large bone like I would eat a piece of candy. Then take a
treat from my four year old grandson with the finesse of a
brain surgeon.
This brought tears to my eyes.
Huge bump...
Don’t forget the buffoons that spoil their pets, overfeed them, dress them in stupid clothes, and fail to train them, fail to discipline them...and in some cases, even fail to house break them.
Those are the real nutjobs.
Even a 90 pound child can bite off your finger.
Tearjerker.
I’m very sorry. Please hug him for me.
Thank you for the beautiful post. I’m almost 50 and never had a dog. I just got my first puppy. He’s a 9 week old beagle mix. A real handful, but such a joy to have around. Thanks.
Hats off to you - a very hard thing to do, under very difficult circumstances.
11) When we go for a walk let me stop and smell the urine. I can’t explain it to you but it is endlessly fascinating to me.
God bless you and your friend Toby. Miss Emily and I will be thinking of you.
