It is a good measure of a person’s character in how they treat their animals. Not talking about the people with mental problems that actually hurt their pets but think they are helping (ie hoarders), but the average person.

The thanks should really go to corbie, but I’m happy to steal the credit.

Okay for some reason I’ve been needing a good cry lately. Thanks for making that happen.

Someone should put this together as a blueprint for a Bible of sorts for how to properly deal with Animals. For the record, God did not give us animals so we could do whatever we want to them.

7. Before you hit me, before you strike me, remember that I have teeth that could easily crush the bones in your hand, and yet I choose not to bite you.
I'm always awed when I see my 120 pound Newfoundland mix eat
a large bone like I would eat a piece of candy. Then take a
treat from my four year old grandson with the finesse of a
brain surgeon.

10. On the difficult journey, on the ultimate difficult journey, go with me please. Never say you can’t bear to watch. Don’t make me face this alone. Everything is easier for me if you are there. Because I love you so. My beloved Toby will make this journey tomorrow. He was diagnosed last week with canine dilative cardiomyopathy and is not responding to treatment. Barring a miracle we be faced with no other choice. I just lost my mother and now my best friend. I can't bear this but I will for him.

Don’t forget the buffoons that spoil their pets, overfeed them, dress them in stupid clothes, and fail to train them, fail to discipline them...and in some cases, even fail to house break them.
Those are the real nutjobs.

Thank you for the beautiful post. I’m almost 50 and never had a dog. I just got my first puppy. He’s a 9 week old beagle mix. A real handful, but such a joy to have around. Thanks.

Hats off to you - a very hard thing to do, under very difficult circumstances.
