March for Life, Roe vs. Wade Rally Disrupting Traffic in DC

The annual event to march in Washington DC as a pro-choice or pro-life participant is happening today. With streets around the National Mall closed, parking restrictions, as well as fourteen bus lines being rerouted and the slowing of commuter trains from Maryland, traffic Disruption in Washington DC is a big concern today.

The National Organization for Women, Choice USA and NARAL Pro-Choice America are gathering at noon at the Supreme Court, 1st Street NE between Maryland Ave and East Capitol in Washington DC as well. The Supreme Court decision Roe vs. Wade decided in 1973 to make abortion legal in the United States, thus prompting these organizations and the annual January 22nd rally. Abortion and a women's right to choose or not has been at the forefront of political conflict ever since.

For the March for Life rally, Washington Post states: "At about 11:30 a.m., many of the rally participants will march to the Mall from an event at the Verizon Center. This will require temporary closures along 7th Street NW from F Street to Madison Drive. The main rally is scheduled for noon on the Mall at 7th Street NW. At about 2:15 p.m., participants will march to the Supreme Court. The route will take them north on 4th Street NW to Pennsylvania Avenue, then east to Constitution Avenue and up Capitol Hill to the intersection of 1st Street NE and East Capitol Street. Police will temporarily close the route and cross streets to vehicles during the march."

March for Life is also going virtual this year. Visit their website to find out how. Getting to these places in person might be a problem, but for the residents attempting to simply get around, they've got another thing coming.

“The grounds after the March for Life are pristine.”

Same with the Tea Party Express that came to town 9/12/09 .. no trash whatsoever afterward. Makes one wonder if overall ideology has something to do with it, maybe conservative don’t have the ‘entitlement’ attitude to being cleaned up after?

Recall, btw, that for Obama’s inauguration last year, there was NO traffic allowed into DC in the mall/monument areas. All roads (bridges) into DC between the two ends of the Beltway were closed from the day before till 8p the night of the inaugural.

I will check out Arroyo’s “The World Over” (or record it while I put my little ones to bed). Thanks for reminding me!

I agree. The wording making it sound like the pro-choice side will be anywhere near equal is just ridiculous. My daughter said there were just a few isolated pro-aborts here and there vs. hundreds of thousands of pro-lifers. It’s hard to get people excited about encouraging more baby-killing these days.

Well if that is not a way to win the public over to our pov, I just don’t know what is.

I can promise you that so long as marchers stay within the lines and don't cause inconvenience for anyone, their visibility and impact will be zero. What the pro-life movement needs is a couple hundred thousand people willing to be arrested for being a non-violent pain-in-the-ass.

You may have something there.

About 6,000 marchers attended the Minnesota March for Life at the Capitol. Tim Pawlenty, whose pro-life bona fides in Minnesota are rock solid, spoke, as did Michele Bachmann (who got huge ovations for her impassioned exhortations).

My husband and I were there last year, 2 days after the Inauguration. We certainly disrupted traffic, then.

Y’all come to Austin tomorrow for the Texas Rally for Life
http://www.texasrallyforlife.org/ Washington’s weather is cold - the high was around 40 degrees. We’ll be sunny and near 70!

Super! I wish I could be at the Texas rally for life, since we are freezing here in Michigan! I did see a giant Texas flag being waved by someone in the front at the rally in Washington today.

There is none of us good, not one. However, I would have to admit that Christianity, devoutly practiced, can’t help make our sorry sinful selves BETTER. But never good.
