Sen. John McCain (R) has known from an early stage that he could face a tough primary in his bid for re-election this year, and acted on it. He already launched radio ads touting his effort to block President Obama's "extreme left wing crusade." And just this week, Sen.-elect Scott Brown (R) recorded robocalls that went out to voters in Arizona.
Now, a Rasmussen poll (502 LVs, 1/20, MoE +/- 4.5%) shows the Maverick just over 50 percent in a potential matchup against former Rep. JD Hayworth -- not the best position for an incumbent to be, but an improvement over the dead heat Rasmussen found in November.
Primary Election Matchup
McCain 53 (+8 vs. last poll, 11/18)
Hayworth 31 (-12)
Simcox 4 (unch)
Und 8 (+1)

Me too. Paalin's a phony in my book if she campaigns for McCain.
You're the one being silly. Sarah brought life to McCain's lackluster campaign and brought conservative support to the ticket he could never have won. And it was conservative states, and ONLY conservative states that voted Republican in 2008. Juan the RINO did not win a single purple or blue state for the ticket.
Sarah owes Juan absolutely nothing. And if she thinks she does, then there is evidence that she doesn't belong in big time politics. McCain is one of the most disloyal, backstabbing snakes in DC, and that is saying a lot. If she can't recognize that...
I’m hearing daily radio ads about how we NEED McCain to protect us from Obama, and how Hayworth is a big spending liberal. I’ve heard NOTHING on the other side.
I will vote for any opponent of McCain in the primary. I might even vote against him in the general election... wouldn’t it be nice if we never had to see or hear from Megan McCain or Cindy McCain or Juan McCain again?
If voters in AZ are that stupid, they deserve him.
JD's dithering is a big problem here. Without him declaring, this thread is a useless whinefest.
I wish he would jump in, and hope he takes McCain out if he does.
I was kinda thinking along the same lines. If the voters from Arizona haven’t figured out John McCain yet, and the race lies in the balance depending on an endorsement or a campaign ad, then we have far greater problems in this republic than John McCain. He’s just a symptom.
My wife said it this way. Sarah could have simply given the typical political double-speak answer on this.
Answering the question to whether she was going to be supporting/endorsing McLame: "Oh, John McCain certainly doesn't need MY endorsement...He's John McCain! afterall ... I'll always have a special place in my heart for him for what we went through in 2008, yada yada yada..."
Fox: Palin’s Appearances to be Simulcast in English
Millions to Understand Governor for First Time
NEW YORK (The Borowitz Report) - One day after announcing that she would be a commentator on the Fox News Channel, the network revealed that former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin’s appearances would be simulcast in English.
“We are delighted that Gov. Palin will, for the first time, be understandable to the English-speaking audience,” said Fox News chief Roger Ailes. “This should create a whole new fan base for her.”
Gov. Palin praised the decision, adding, “I know many Americans will be interested in understanding what I have to say and I will also too.”
In a related story, Fox said it had “no interest” in hiring funnyman Conan O’Brien, explaining, “Sarah Palin takes care of our comedy needs.”
Sarah has basically destroyed Hayworth’s chances of grabbing the GOP nomination from McCain.
If Hayworth is harboring a personal grudge against McCain, then he will try to run against him any way and lose.
If he is smart, Hayworth will take advantage of the political climate and find a Democratic congressman to defeat.
Doesn’t any McCain competitor need to announce he/she’s running to really matter on this? I mean, if only one person is running, doesn’t it make sense that all stated public support goes to that guy?
I don’t like McCain at all, and I’m a bit frustrated at Scott and Sarah to be doing anything for him, but McCain was the GOP nominee and he was the one that got Sarah noticed by the rest of us.
It is an understandable mess.
Great point. I think most of us had forgotten that. Sarah owes him nothing. And she is making a huge mistake, and going back on her word that she'd support conservatives who share her values.
Or, maybe she and Juan do share the same values? She's needed to clarify some things for a while, but has failed to it.
I am on the fence on this as she got publicity yet IMO bad publicity from conservatives. Moderates already have issues with her IMO so it wasn’t like she was going to gain anything with old gopers etc......I think this was a bad move on her part.
I don’t get to vote there yet I can send my money an support to Hayworth from here in TX !
McCain is a polidiot that needs to GO AWAY !!
It is McCain that owes HER for carrying his sorry butt over the finish line last year and NOT the other way around.
Cut bait Sarah! Move on from this loser. McLame can only hurt your cause. Besides, he and his family are clearly not in line with your values.
If McCain wins and brings in amnesty, it will be tied to her for helping get him re-elected. The powers that be would love to take her down politically and this could be part of that plan.
McCain is like a political VD.
Michelle Bachmann kicks ass. She would make a fantastic VP in 2012.
OK how about this, we just start supporting the Dem against McCain. We get rid of him and we will poss(The GOP/Conservatives) will win the US Senate w/out him.
Oh... and I might mention the fact that I didn’t put the gun to my own head and pull the trigger, this last Presidential election either — as I did vote for McCain and Palin... :-)
I suppose that you’re one of those that I’ve seen other FReepers complaining about and “thanking you” for us getting Obama... LOL... (since you didn’t vote for McCain/Palin...
I’ve been trying to warn people here about Palin. She’s not what many would like to believe.
The Palin delusion and projection is the parallel on our side of the 0bama delusion and projection was on the Dems side.
Palin is not down with our struggle.
If she was, then she would have never come out for McCain.
Ridding the GOP of people like McCain is our #1 priority.
And Palin is an opponent of our top priority.
Get it through your heads quickly, people.
Before you allow this woman to lead us even deeper into the wilderness.
Yesterday there was a FReeper asking for donations, and something about Jan 31 being the deadline. Not sure if I have this correct though.
“If voters in AZ are that stupid, they deserve him.”
The problem with that is that those of us in the rest of the country also get stuck with this warped version of a sane person. Send the jerk packing.
