If they’re available, look at the results by county or voting region. Most sites are sophisticated enough now to link to voter registration data, so you can get a pretty good feel by cross referencing. For example, if your candidate is ahead but there is a big stronghold of the other guy yet to report, that often means trouble.

Exactly, and handed out by Coakley people in such a way as to ensure their discovery. The ones they were handing out pre-marked for Martha they didn't tell anybody about.
