Despite appearances to the contrary, there are times when I am not so calm, President Barack Obama said this morning at an African American congregation in Northwest Washington where Rev. Martin Luther King Jr. spoke on February 7, 1968. Todays largely personal speech during a session of Sunday worship, not coincidentally just before Martin Luther King Jr. Day, may signal a shift for Obama back to the impassioned and personal rhetoric weve come to expect from the president, as he admitted pain and impatience.
My wife knows, he continued. There are times when progress seems too slow. There are times when the words that are spoken about me hurt. There are times when the barbs sting. There are times when it feels like all these efforts are for naught and change is so painfully slow in coming and I have to confront my own doubts.
But let me tell you, its faith that keeps me calm. Its faith that gives me peace.
This particular section of Obamas speech seems especially important at a time one year into his presidency where criticism has intensified and even supporters have begun to show signs of impatience, exemplified in slipping polls numbers and the media narrative of the impending midterm elections.

BOO HOO
Enter stage left: worlds smallest violin.
What a silly, pathetic douche.
That's been the problem for you Obozo. You think this is ALL about YOU.
Oh for pete’s sake! Cowboy up, will ya! You’re the leader of the free world, not in a group therapy session.
If these words “hurt”, he’d never make it as a conservative American. We catch hell. I guess that’s why he’s a Marxist DemocRAT.
A new low trying to eek out the sympathy vote.
It’s all about ME, ME, ME.
It’s not like the news media has been critical of his broken promises to filibuster Telecom Immunity or end the war in Iraq.
The mind boggles. What’s he doing, reading right-wing blogs to see what people are thinking?!
hOW ABOUT THE COUNTRY WHICH IS HURTING? It’s all about him, poor kenyan baby...
I got a couple words for ya, Barack!
Eff you!
This coward is starting to crumble even with a fawning media and a loyal demographic that would vote 95% in his facor even if he ate a live baby at that very pulpit. He would have folded in a month if he had been loathed by many as was Bush.
Was he really crying?!!
But let me tell you, its faith that keeps me calm. Its faith that gives me peace. FAITH IN WHAT? FAITH IN WHO?!!
He is Cowboying it up. The Cowboys are getting their butts kicked 27 - 3.
Welcome to the big leagues, Mr. President. Thin skins are a liability in this profession.
All sizzle and no steak.
Did they play the violin?
Oh, my heart bleeds purple pamper piss.
What you and your minions are doing to my country is hurting a lot worse.
