Reid: I'm not going anywhere By: Manu Raju and David Rogers January 10, 2010 04:18 PM EST
Senior advisers for Sen. Harry Reid say he wont resign as majority leader over comments he made about Barack Obama and that Republican attacks on the Reid will give them the opportunity to solidify Democrat support by arguing that he's the victim of a partisan witchhunt.
The more you have in terms of criticism from Republicans, the more likely it is that it is just a political pile-on, a senior Reid adviser told POLITICO Sunday.
The calculus could always change if more revelations emerge or if Democrats begin to call for Reid to step down. But Reids advisers expect neither of those situations to play out, believing that support has been solidified on the left and that they can weather the storm in Washington and will have to turn the focus in his Nevada reelection campaign to jobs and the economy.
Republicans attacked Reid in force Sunday, with RNC Chairman Michael Steele, who is black, National Republican Senatorial Committee Chairman John Cornyn (R-Tex.) and Senate Minority Whip Jon Kyl (R-Ariz.) all calling on Reid to step down and comparing his remarks to those that led to the downfall of Sen. Trent Lott (R-Miss.) in 2002.
But since Republicans have no power to remove Reid from his position, the majority leader remain in place unless he decides to step down voluntarily or Democratic senators turn against him. Neither seems likely.
He has no intention of stepping down as majority leader, Reid spokesman Jim Manley said. Unlike others who advocate moving our nation backwards, and viewing this moment for political gain, hes working, today, tomorrow and the next day to move our country forward.

I once had an idea for a book, titled "If a Republican Said/Did That...", dealing with this very subject. I decided not to do it, for fear of lack of material. Silly me...
American people: Oh, yes you are
I want see him get smack around by Demo bosses like movie Casino that type
I think they’d love to replace him, but it’s circle the wagon time...for now.
When he is voted out, his scrawny, little hands will have to be pried off the doorframes. It won’t be a pretty sight, but he’ll go kicking and screaming all the way back to Nevada. The sooner the better.
You’re going down you puke!!
Blaming his self made problems on the Republicans. Nice try Harry.
Good. Stay where you are.
Nice to see that Harry’s keeping the minstrel show going.
Well done!
I don’t want Reid to quit. The stink of hypocrisy with him continuing to lead the Senate will continue and will be noticeable to American voters in the days and months ahead, which when combined with America’s growing distaste with Obama, bodes very well for Conservative chances in the coming mid-terms.
The masses, our citizen population GETS IT.
NEVER LET THIS GO!
The sun shines East,
The sun shines West,
The sun shines on my Bammy best!
BAMMY!!
Ultimately, I know we both have the ouster of Dingy Harry as an objective. I just refuse to play into the racism nonsense and appreciate the toxic atmosphere he creates for anyone who dares go near him.
He is going to be an anchor to his sons Governor campaign at the very least and since he’s an absolute ass, Harry is the only one who can steal defeat from the jaws of victory on this HC thing.
If Obama dismissed it then the word is out to the MSM to squash the Negro talk. It’s now a non-issue.
Trent Lott, please pick up the white courtesy phone.
You could well be right. Either way Harry is pretty much gone and if nothing comes of this there's no harm done. It's not a milestone moment and - to tell the truth - I would not have chosen this as a major battle to fight but since the pubbies made a big deal of it they should go ahead and win.
If they know how.
