Harry Reid: I'm not going anywhere (Claims Republican partisan witchhunt)

Reid: I'm not going anywhere By: Manu Raju and David Rogers January 10, 2010 04:18 PM EST

Senior advisers for Sen. Harry Reid say he won’t resign as majority leader over comments he made about Barack Obama — and that Republican attacks on the Reid will give them the opportunity to solidify Democrat support by arguing that he's the victim of a partisan witchhunt.

“The more you have in terms of criticism from Republicans, the more likely it is that it is just a political pile-on,” a senior Reid adviser told POLITICO Sunday.

The calculus could always change if more revelations emerge or if Democrats begin to call for Reid to step down. But Reid’s advisers expect neither of those situations to play out, believing that support has been solidified on the left and that they can weather the storm in Washington – and will have to turn the focus in his Nevada reelection campaign to jobs and the economy.

Republicans attacked Reid in force Sunday, with RNC Chairman Michael Steele, who is black, National Republican Senatorial Committee Chairman John Cornyn (R-Tex.) and Senate Minority Whip Jon Kyl (R-Ariz.) all calling on Reid to step down and comparing his remarks to those that led to the downfall of Sen. Trent Lott (R-Miss.) in 2002.

But since Republicans have no power to remove Reid from his position, the majority leader remain in place unless he decides to step down voluntarily or Democratic senators turn against him. Neither seems likely.

“He has no intention of stepping down as majority leader,” Reid spokesman Jim Manley said. “Unlike others who advocate moving our nation backwards, and viewing this moment for political gain, he’s working, today, tomorrow and the next day to move our country forward.”

This is so dumb. The Republican "leaders" should pick their fights like good generals do. This happened a long time ago.....and it's second-hand gossip and a no-win issue for either side. Nobody cares about this, Steele, nobody cares.

The comatose Pubbies have done a Rip Van Winkle for years......and only wake up once in a while to tilt ineffectively at a windmill for a few days....and then you can hear the snores rising again from Sleepy Hollow, D.C.

If Reid was a Republican half of the Republicans would call for his resignation and the other half would run and hide.

Heh...there’s a story further down the News/Activism forum that has Dumpy Harry at 33% approval rating in Nevada.

You’re going somewhere, Harry...the Retirement Home for Mousy Old Socialists. You can learn to glue macaroni to construction paper in the shape of elephants.

Oh I think he is going somewhere all right - we are going to send him packing back home to Searchlight. UNLESS, and that is a huge unless, ACORN and SEIU steal the election - never trust a RAT.

I am rooting for Harry to survive this.
Repubs need him as a poster boy for the ineptitude and corruption that plagues DC in the 2010 elections.

Barry hates Harry because he has royally screwed up the socialist HC takeover, he cannot control him, and Harry’s re-election is in serious doubt.

The Dumocrats bend, break, and manipulate the rule in their favor with nary a peep from the GOP, so I feared them throwing him under the bus.

Why not have Harry resign...appoint a more appropriate sock-puppet...have a true Obama minion as Majority leader...run an effective 2010 strategy that does not involve Reid and his baggage???

That is what I fear will come of this.

We have pelosi and 0bama for that.

We don't need Harry. We need to flex our muscles and win something for a change. We're not defeated if we don't win this one but it would be a nice trophy. Payback is a b*tch and the American people respect authentic and responsible, ethical power used well.

If only the pubbies understood how to do that.

I dissent. It is not second hand gossip or Reid would not have quickly apologized.

At minimum, if we generate some phone calls to RAT senators from our various states, it will extend the controversy and lead to further delays on BOcare. With Scott Brown in the wings, every day that we can cause havoc for the Senate RATS is a good day.

The GOP should also demand that the MSM address this double standard. Nothing to lose by keeping the story alive for a couple of days.
