Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) apologized today for referring to President Barack Obama as "light skinned" and "with no Negro dialect" in private conversations during the 2008 presidential campaign.
"I deeply regret using such a poor choice of words," said Reid in a statement. "I sincerely apologize for offending any and all Americans, especially African Americans for my improper comments."
The Senate Majority Leader was officially neutral in the primary fight between Obama and then Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton (N.Y.). Reid's remarks about Obama were revealed in "Game Change", a book detailing the 2008 race penned by Time's Mark Halperin and New York magazine's John Heilemann.
Reid's apology comes on the same day that a new poll conducted by the Las Vegas Review Journal showed him facing an uphill fight for re-election in 2010. Reid trailed former state Republican party chairwoman Sue Lowden by a 50 percent to 40 percent margin and was behind businessman Danny Tarkanian (R) 49 percent to 41 percent.
Only one in three voters viewed Reid favorably while 52 percent saw him in an unfavorable light in the poll.

Danny sued for slander and WON - not an easy thing to do. He discovered during all of this that Harry Reid had his hand quite heavily in the "information" that was in the ads.
I have complete faith in Danny. He is a Constitutionalist, believes in SMALL government and is PRO small business. He is also PRO life - PRO Yucca Mountain. . .etc. He is a businessman - just like a number of fellow Nevadans. He knows what the "little guy" is going through. He runs a charitible foundation for at risk - inner city youth too.
His closest opponent is Sue Lowden. She just recently updated her website to include her political views. Prior to that it was all about her stint as Miss New Jersey (I think it was NJ) and all of the charitible things she has done. Nothing of substance.
I saw her at a forum a couple months back (most of her opponents were there too) and she was rude, completely disinterested in the event and left early because she had a fund raiser to attend. She loudly announced to a group that her scheduler had put her at two events at one time and she would be replaced come Monday. Very unprofessional.
The Dim party line on this is “he said it while he was being complimentary towards the president”. I suppose saying “That Barry is one smart ni99er” would be acceptable under those guidelines.

Still, Reid didn't say "high yellow", did he? He said "light skinned". Which is not a pejorative. And which Obama certainly is.
Only a liberal could find fault with this.

Remember the incident of the Secretary of (Agriculture?) who made the mistake of saying on an airplane: “All black men want is a loose pair of shoes, a tight pxxxx (female orifice), and a warm place to shxx (defecate). My white husband, who was born in Peoria, commented, “Hey, I like that program.” As I recall he lost his job. Anyone remember if he was a Dem or Pub?
At any rate, I think that Reid spoke the truth about most centrist voters. They were willing to vote for a black man who was not too in-your-face black. It was a private conversation and he is stupid to apologize.
Mayor Marion Barry did what Hastings does in Washington, DC. Talk white or black according to the audience.
I seem to recall that Mayor Fiorello LaGuardia, NY City, was famous for being able to talk, Italian, Jewish and White as needed.

I’m not interested in the Lott equation but I ma interested in how there is such hypocrisy.
If a republican had said this , if a republican said that he could have been serving us coffee a few years ago like Clinton did then those black leaders would be going mad.
The black leaders sold the black community out many years ago, The Dem pay these leaders and then the leaders get blacks to vote for the Dems.
Black leaders have no problem and they have no problem with affirmative action.
Astounding , all affirmative action says is that they think blacks are too stupid and dumb to compete with whites so they need this affirmative crap.
Just this morning a guy from the NAACP said that they have no problem with this comment because obama can talk differently like we do to our mothers compared to work talk.
He then went on to say obama talks intelligently t whites but can talk differently to the black community

Well what was Harry supposed to say? We’re not allowed to say “mixed racial” or “mulatto”, so he had to say “light-skinned”.
