Obama's nuclear weapons plan runs into resistance: report

WASHINGTON: President Barack Obama's plan to begin phasing out nuclear weapons has run up against powerful resistance from officials in the Pentagon and other US agencies, a US newspaper reported late Sunday.

Obama laid out his vision of a nuclear-free world in a speech in Prague last April. But citing unnamed officials, the newspaper said the Obama administration is now locked in internal debate over a top-secret policy blueprint for shrinking the US nuclear arsenal and reducing the role of such weapons in country's military strategy.

The Pentagon has stressed the importance of continued US deterrence, an objective Obama has said he agrees with, the report said. But a senior Defense official, who described the debate as "spirited," acknowledged that some officials are concerned that the administration may be going too far, the paper pointed out.

If you knew nothing else about Mr. Obama, his plan to disarm the United States would tell you all you needed to know about him and who is pulling his strings.

This would be the worst time in history to start unilaterally “phasing out” American “nuclear weapons.” The Russians won’t reduce theirs. The Chinese, by now, have many mobiles that can hit anywhere in the USA. The Iranians have vowed to propagate theirs to other terrorist regimes. There are nukes in countries south of our southern border. Not a good time for that at all.

There is no evidence whatsoever that reducing nuclear weapons will make anyone safer.
Quite the opposite may very well be true.

Nukes have kept the peace better then all the war protestors and peace activists combined. The honest and smarter ones will admit to it.

There is a real threat here to our national security.

Not t o have a significant policy dedicated to deterrance and a maintained technological lead in MRV missiles is folly beyond belief.
