'Good Jobs Now!' campaign can help NY state be strong again

We have heard a lot from Gov. David Paterson about the terrible shape of the state budget.

But New York has a chance to do this better right now. It has $27 billion in federal stimulus funds to spend over two years, the bulk of which has not yet been used. The primary purpose of that money is job creation.

The state also has received (in two parts) an additional $500 million windfall from the federal welfare contingency fund. This money can be used to draw down additional stimulus dollars for job training and work activity.

Finally, state lawmakers enacted the Green Jobs, Green NY program, which aims to weatherize 1 million homes in the next five years, paid for with energy savings in those same homes. The program is designed to create 14,000 permanent jobs.

These weatherization jobs are bullsht jobs
They are social worker jobs
Fixing up things same as doctors police fireman nurses lawyers .... many of the university teachers in ethnic studies...various foundations such as Ford
Ministering to America and the world

Which is all OK if kept in proportion but it is fatal to promote these fix-um jobs as core jobs
Matter of fact we need fewer people in fix-um jobs and more people in make-um jobs
As is making hard durable goods such as LCDs and automobiles, tractors and machine tools

Only problem is China and other low cost producers undermine whatever effort we make at manufacturing jobs
I would put up a tariff wall to protect American industry.
But freepers and other brainwashed free traders will object because they too have been mis-educated to think that these fix-um jobs can make a real economy
Because they are in fix-um jobs themselves
That's where they get their paycheck or pension check from
so they have to self-justify their existence and justify how useful to society they are
I speak from personal experience in a family make-um business
A sheet metal factory

Democrats love these fix-um jobs because they give the illusion of useful economic activity when all they do is minister to people and coddle them giving them illusions...
Thus America's self help industry is flourishing
We are a self help super-power

“An emphasis will be placed on geographic diversity, and preferential funding will be awarded to coalitions that include women- and minority-based businesses as well as groups based in economically distressed communities.”

Are they talking about that same stimulus money that had the governor giving out free money to the “ahem” poor for school supplies?

This guy had them lining up in august for their free cash (200 dollars) to buy their kids school supplies. Not vouchers, CASH.

It was blasted all over the tv news. They showed the lines. I wondered how many of these peoples kids actually saw pencils and backpacks.

The government cannot create wealth. This newspaper is a pure dim mouthpiece. First they had to take that money, directly or indirectly from people who were producing, so now they produce less. Next, they will waste this money on unproductive investments, like green jobs and job training for jobs that don’t exist. This is the folly of the government trying to enrich its populace. The best thing the government can do in this situation is go away. Reduce itself to the most minimum size possible and let the people train themselves for the the available jobs.

Millions of jobs leave NYS and they are gushing about 14,000 low-paying jobs for nearly unskilled laborers to weatherize homes?? What are they going to do? Weatherize vacant homes where the owners departed for warmer, more business-friendly climes?

Nothing but feel-good liberal pablum — but pablum bought by bankrupting our kids and grandkids.

Yea ! Great Program !

27 Billion = 14,000 permanent jobs

That’s only about 2 million bucks per job ! What a great use of taxpayer money!

Not only that - 1 million homes will be insulated ! That’s only about 27,000 bucks per home! Funny, I wonder why those folks never thought of insulating their homes before?

go figure
