Abstract
For more than a year, Sarah Palin has been a national Rorschach test. The views expressed about her reveal the distinctions and conflicting perceptions of often antagonistic groups of Americansthe religious and the secular, the conservative and the liberal, the urban and the small town, the elitist and the populist.
And now, with the publication of her autobiography, Going Rogue, and Matthew Continettis The Persecution of Sarah Palin, the Rorschach tests are being administered anew, and with increasing fervor.
For her conservative admirers, she continues to exemplify independence, moxie, common sense, the superiority of the common American over the nations elites, and the embodiment of modern womanhood and Christian faith.
For her detractors, both conservative and liberal, she is uncouth, unschooled, a hick, anti-science and anti-intellectual, an upstart, and a religious fanatic. There is no group so firmly in the latter camp as American Jews. And there is much to learn in their reaction to Palin, both about her and about the sociological makeup of American Jewry today. While Palin enjoys support from some prominent Jewish conservatives, it is not an exaggeration to say that, more so than any other major political figure in recent memory (with the possible exception of Patrick J. Buchanan), she rubs Jews the wrong way . . .
Ask an average American Jew about Palin and you are likely to get a nonverbal responsea shiver, a shudder, a roll of the eyes, or a guffaw. Naomi Wolf, the feminist writer, sputtered that Palin was the FrankenBarbie of the Rove-Cheney cabal, articulating the mixture of contempt and fear that seemed to grip many Jewish women.
The disdain is palpable and largely emotional. While 78 percent of American Jews voted for the Obama-Biden ticket, it is fair to say that most did not harbor animosity toward or contempt for Senator John McCain; the same cannot be said of their view of Palin . . .
Question:
Why are secular jews mixed in with faithful jews?
(The two seem to be oxymorons, completely unrelated.)
IMHO
Sure we don't...
I do not know if , in a fair election, he could weather it or not. I suspect not.
But, the 2012 election, assuming that there is one, which I personally doubt that there will. If obama and his thuggs decide to have one, it will be anything but fair, fraud, thuggery, and violence by obama’s disciples, particularily in the big cities, will be the fare of the day. Unless our side is prepared to deal with this .... you know the rest.
As far as the 2010 elections go, I would not be surprised if he called them off also. Unless the Democrats believe that they have found a way to neutralize their opposition to them for voting for obama care, therre won’t be an election.
As every other socialists in hastory has done, in 2008 the Democrats,a/k/a socialists by using the unwashed masses, fools, idiots, and parasites pulled off a revolution without having to fire a shot.
If the Constitution of the United States is ever restored, those who restore it won’t be as lucky.
I agree, the vote is mostly irrelevant. But the campaign against Palin the Jewish community could launch is not. I do think future attacks have been made difficult because the Kos kids, Letterman and the snot media went overboard. When I hear someone attack her, my first reaction now is to wonder if they are mental. If they have some sick sex thing going on in their head. The men who go after her can be profiled and the profile is not manly or healthy.
But they couldnt stand Bush, Cheney, Gingrich, Reagan or any other conservative.
Gringrich, yes..sorta. But the intensity of the attacks against Palin are unlike anything I've ever seen.
Because people identify themselves as this or that and the proper course to take , as Howard Cosell said, is to respect that. Look at Catholics. Obama didn't win a majority of Catholics who attend Mass on a regular basis. Far, far from it. But he did win, by a few points, the "Catholic" vote--cultural, ethnic Catholics who may only go to Midnight Mass and Easter Services. Or may not have been in a church for 30 years. But they are "Catholics". Tell them they are not and they'll fight you on it. Same with Jews and other groups. Rightly so, whom am I to say who is Catholic or Jewish or Baptist. Only thing to do is leave it up to them.
(I do draw the line at Obama. He is not, no matter what he says, a Christian. Not because I think he is a Muslim but because what was preached at Jeremiah Wright's church is a direct attack on the Christian faith. Cones' Black Liberation Theology cannot be reconciled with Galatians 3:28. Christianity is a big tent. A person can be a monarchist, a socialist, a small "r" republican and be a Christian. Can't go against Galatians 3:28 and be one however).
“Because theyre illogical, group thinking kool-aid drinkers who will hate anyone the media projects their hatred and biases on, period.”
Who owns the liberal media?
I wonder how many of the Liberal Jews are members of JFPFO. I think I know the answer.
Okay, but what did you mean by "taking away their Mosaics" ? Is it something to do with Moses ? There's more than a few Jews that read Free Republic daily and I think it would be instructional to know. Atchafalya seemed to know what you were talking about.
JINO is not a new term, but one that should be used much more frequently.
I meant “zealots” equal to Muslim “zealots”. Jeez!
I think I’ll keep my $5 or whatever.
The real reason many Jews hate Sarah Palin, IMO, is that they see her as a sort of Pied Piper of American tribalism. She represents an American culture and way of life that has been under attack for 40 years or more by the multiculturalists, and has been, if not partially destroyed, at least marginalized.
Jews have an underlying fear of this sort of resurgence of traditional American values, I think, because of faint parallels to terrifying events of the past. This is not a reasonable fear, because to the extent that unity in American culture has affected Jews, it has almost always been to their benefit.
In fact, Jews have much more to fear from the destruction of American culture than its reassertion.
There are lots of Jews who are hostile to Christianity, especially unabashed Evangelical Christianity. There are lots of Jews who are in love with socialism, and hate anyone who opposes socialism. Palin pushes all their buttons.
Exactly. Do not assume that most American Jews, especially secular Jews, give a damn about Israel.
Some historical perspective. Jews tend to live in States that are liberal like California, NY and retire to Florida. It is illogical to think that they should be different than the surrounding population.
When I registered Republican in 1984 to vote for Reagan it was a novel feat. When I was in college there were almost no others and I did not attend a radical college like Berkley.
When I see the local NY young Republican Club in NYC it is about 1/3 Jewish. The secret is out that the bombastic anti Jewish rhetoric of the far left pushes Jews out. You will see a few Capo types on the far left, but most are red diaper baby types.
When I experience bigotry it is almost always from a far left type. On the rare occasion it is from a religious type it is almost always some dolt into Liberation Theology.
Times are changing
I’d like to know what gives them the impression that she is on the same “level” as Buchanan??? [And I’m wondering what is meant by “at the same level” as well...]
I’ve heard from some here at FR (Christians NOT Jews that believe Jews are afraid of Christians because we would attempt to convert them??) I find that REALLY hard to believe. If they believe in the First Amendment and Freedom of Religion (as Sarah does) then why would they be “scared”??? I find this all to be ridiculous, frankly...
I think the truth lies more in the area that many younger Jews - particularly of the “Reformed” Jews is that they have failed to learn from History — that they have FORGOTTEN already, and have embraced liberal/socialist ideology. I really don’t think it has much if anything to do with religious beliefs on either side.
All JMHO...
Some of the most anti-Jewish attitudes you will see will come from black democrats. I hope that eventually Jews will get sick of it.
That is SUCH a generalized, and frankly untrue statement. It’s pretty bigoted as well. There are many CONSERVATIVE Jews that I have known over the years - and many I have come to know here at FR. You need to re-think your beliefs, or at least reconsider how you have phrased your statement as there is an implied “ALL” at the beginning of your first sentence. As far as “proof” it could not POSSIBLY stand as a “proof” as all-inclusive statements are automatically invalid.
She is a piece of work. Reminds me of Noonan.
Obama is a cynic wrapped in a hypocrite inside a bully.Honestly, I’m a Christian and I have found a number of fellow Christians who seem to be quite anti-semitic in their postings — perhaps I’m just noticing this the last few days for some reason, I don’t know... Do you see this kind of rhetoric (Jews don’t like Christians) on the rise lately, or is it just me??? I don’t know, but it’s starting to really bother me. People claim to be strong supporters of Israel, but their attitude towards the Jewish people on the whole is disconcerting... Some of the beliefs I’ve seen expressed - like Jews are afraid of Christians in general for fear of conversion I’m finding VERY hard to fathom. I haven’t started checking sign-ups or anything, but I wonder if there aren’t some trolls in the mix on some of these threads. Your input is appreciated on this. You may also want to read the post I put up right before this one, too. The other thing I don’t understand is accusations towards ME asking “why” i would find this kind of anti-semitic rhetoric bothersome — I’m curious as to what in the world they would ask this question of me. I don’t understand it at all, really.
A “liberal lifestyle”??? What in the heck are you talking about? Because she didn’t stay home barefoot and pregnant? Let me guess, you’re one of those posters who blames the fall of America on Women’s Suffrage? And what do you view as her “tolerance of single parenthood”??? Are you referring to her daughter? If so, she is better off raising her child within a family support system than married to a no-good juvenile idiot...
I’m sure your life, and everyone in your family is just a paragon of virtue, eh?
