Abstract
For more than a year, Sarah Palin has been a national Rorschach test. The views expressed about her reveal the distinctions and conflicting perceptions of often antagonistic groups of Americansthe religious and the secular, the conservative and the liberal, the urban and the small town, the elitist and the populist.
And now, with the publication of her autobiography, Going Rogue, and Matthew Continettis The Persecution of Sarah Palin, the Rorschach tests are being administered anew, and with increasing fervor.
For her conservative admirers, she continues to exemplify independence, moxie, common sense, the superiority of the common American over the nations elites, and the embodiment of modern womanhood and Christian faith.
For her detractors, both conservative and liberal, she is uncouth, unschooled, a hick, anti-science and anti-intellectual, an upstart, and a religious fanatic. There is no group so firmly in the latter camp as American Jews. And there is much to learn in their reaction to Palin, both about her and about the sociological makeup of American Jewry today. While Palin enjoys support from some prominent Jewish conservatives, it is not an exaggeration to say that, more so than any other major political figure in recent memory (with the possible exception of Patrick J. Buchanan), she rubs Jews the wrong way . . .
Ask an average American Jew about Palin and you are likely to get a nonverbal responsea shiver, a shudder, a roll of the eyes, or a guffaw. Naomi Wolf, the feminist writer, sputtered that Palin was the FrankenBarbie of the Rove-Cheney cabal, articulating the mixture of contempt and fear that seemed to grip many Jewish women.
The disdain is palpable and largely emotional. While 78 percent of American Jews voted for the Obama-Biden ticket, it is fair to say that most did not harbor animosity toward or contempt for Senator John McCain; the same cannot be said of their view of Palin . . .
So if Thomas Sowell ran against 0bama, who would these people vote for?
Let's face it, if it's a conservative Republican, any lame excuse is made up to not vote for the Republican. That's why the article has no concrete answer as to "Why Jews Hate Palin".
And if they think that 0bama is intellectual, let's see his college transcripts (oh that's right, he has them sealed from the public).
American liberal Jews have an irrational suicide wish, they back folks who would kill them first and vilify the American right, Israel’s ally. It is genuine deadly stupidity based on tradition. The American Irish used to act this way, voting 90% democrat... until Reagan converted millions, so in a mere decade AmerIrish votes became more like 50/50 dem/repub. This needs to happen to other foolishly kneejerk demographics: Jews, Blacks, Hispanics.
Perhaps things have to get WAY WORSE before these entrenched demo voting blocks wake from their stupor?
Jews in name or liberalism only.

You forgot the biggest one — Why does the MSM, especially women, hate her?
Quite frankly they can't relate, let alone the Israeli Politics, Pro-life vs. Pro-Choice etc. issues. They do not share the go west young man mentality of making it in America. Theirs maybe study hard, go to school "X" follow careers in this column, etc. and work within the system.
I would say that's pretty accurate and pretty much the problem Sarah Palin has with Jews...I'm Jewish. I have hunted, dined on deer and reindeer but not been on a seaplane or snowmobile. But have nothing against those that do. But most urban Jews ridicule such outdoor activities. Idiotic in my book but these "urban sophisticates" (not just Jews) derive a lot of their self esteem from dumping on the country bumpkins with their guns etc... Which is pretty vile considering that a lot of our military are such guys and gals
As a very Conservative Jewish person myself, the article is wrong...the title is way off base. Liberal Jews Yes...but they arent “real” or “observant” Jews and therefore a stupid question. Let’s not forget dear Freepers, that Liberal Christians got Hussein elected. It is Liberals who hate Palin....regardless of skin color, ethnicity or former religious affiliation.
Palin is not the Christian Gentile who would see how many Jewish babies can be stuck on a sword, me thinks that man , if he could get away with it has been elected by the same jews that have followed many false Christs into the wilderness only to be slaughtered. And look at Israel now.
I believe you did not understand the sarcasm of my tagline.
I am truly sorry for lashing out at you for that.
Thanks! No harm no foul.
I’ve also been taken literally when assuming everyone gets it.
You are no teabagger. But I’ll bet you’re a tea partier.
In Romans 1:16 Paul states: I am not ashamed of the gospel, because it is the power of God for the salvation of everyone who believes: first for the Jew, then for the Gentile.
Many Jews are in fact anti-Christian, excepting liberal Christians like Obama as not believing in the divinity of Christ. I think it foolish not to see that the only thing that religious and non-religious Jews have in common is a rejection of Jesus as the Christ. So far as Palin is concerned there is also the cultural gap between urbanized Jews and middle-class Christians. Like other liberals. including liberal Protestants and Catholics, they have a sense of superiority, and have a low opinion of those outside their circle of acquaintances. Having achieved a leading position in the academies. so that being Jewish is now an advantage in getting into elite schools. they can only despise those who attend schools like the University of Idaho. Never mind that by any meritocratic measure Palin ranks higher than Obama, except attendence at elite schools. Too many Jews are snobs, pure and simple.
May I say that very few Jews of my acquantinance realize as Barbara Tuchman did, that English evangelicals have always been the leading supporters of zionism. At the same time they have been anti-Jewish, which is to say that they loved the Jewish Scriptures but often disliked Jews, although very often for the same reasons why you might dislike your cousin “Myron.” Family fights are so nasty, aren’t they?
Indeed.
a little tagline repair...
I also find some of these comments offensive. And Winged Hussar is not responsible for whatever percentage of Jews voted for Obama. Nor for their conversion to conservatism. Just as I am not responsible for the actions of false Christians who persecuted the Jews in Europe. Nor am I responsible for the conversion of millions of New York State liberals to conservatism even though I live in the state.
Conservative Americans need to support conservative principles and not worry about classifying people into groups that are responsible for converting the rest of that group. In my humble opinion.
I agree. It encapsulates it pretty well.
I think some liberal women hate SP because she is a knock out. In most cases liberal women are unattractive self loathing, jealous types.
I believe some of the comments are intended to be offensive. It is up to you to let people know where your goat is tied or not. I know myself. Sometimes the only exercise I get is being upset over something someone else has said (typed), besides jumping to conclusions.
Anyone with any sense knows their are many Jews that are conservative, and that a large part of Dem voters across all ethnic/socio/economic lines are afflicted with the same attitude. IMHO, the faithful Jews and Christians should be standouts, and should be evangelizing, even if only by their example.
No one is responsible for anyone else’s “conversion”, but the faithful are responsible to plant the seeds.
Simple. Self-hatred is the liberal pathos.
Reform or Liberal Jews are not Jews but simply non-jews or Jew hating Jews.
The question is, can Liberal and Reform Jews change their minds about Sarah Palin as they did with Ronald Reagan? Fortunately, there are some among non-Orthodox Jews who are Conservative --- right here on Free Republic, even ;-) --- so I have a positive outlook about it myself.
BTW, it's wonderful that you have met Sarah Palin and are working two blogs. Thank you.
