HONOLULU -- Conservative radio talk host Rush Limbaugh was rushed to a Honolulu hospital on Wednesday afternoon with chest pains, sources told KITV.
Paramedics responded to the call at 2:41 p.m. at the Kahala Hotel and Resort.
Rush Limbaugh AP Image Rush Limbaugh Limbaugh, 58, suffered from chest pains, sources said. Limbaugh was sitting in a chair in his ninth-floor hotel room at the Kahala when emergency crews arrived, sources said. He told medical crews that he was taking medication for a back problem, sources said.
Paramedics treated him and took him to Queen's Medical Center in serious condition. He will not be released from the hospital on Wednesday night, sources said.
He was seen golfing at Waialae Country Club earlier this week. The country club is next to the Kahala Hotel and Resort.
The radio show host had been in the islands during the holidays. Coincidentally, his visit comes at a time when two of the nation's most powerful Democrats, President Barack Obama and House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, are also staying in Hawaii.
In 2001, Limbaugh received a cochlear implant after he suddenly lost hearing due to autoimmune inner ear disease. Limbaugh underwent treatment in 2003 for an addiction to prescription painkillers, including Lorcet, Norco and hydrocodone.
How much you wanna bet Rush’s medical records get leaked faster than Obama’s birth records?
well said
Doesn’t necessarily mean he’s taking pain killers/narcotics. He could be on other meds for his back problems, too. Like Gabapentin for nerve pain for instance.
It’s annoying that the press (or the paramedics) blabbed this... Of course everyone is going to assume it’s some narcotic. It COULD be, but there are a wide variety of medications used to treat back problems BESIDES “pain killers”.
I’m not angry with any of you, so please forgive me if this post comes off that way. I just see it as a typical “low-blow” by the reporters and it’s just not right...
DAMMIT, RUSH ... If you needed more time off... why didn’t you just SAY SO!??!
**How much you wanna bet Rushs medical records get leaked faster than Obamas birth records?**
SUCKER BET.. rush’s med records will probably be on the web before his show starts at noon.
I believe OE 800, not COlt 45.
To paraphrase one of Sir Winston’s famous lines:
I will be over it in the morning.
What you have, you will never get over.
I loathe those two lefties as much as anybody but let’s face the obvious facts:
We are talking about a single, 58 year old man who has been overweight most of his adult life, smokes cigars, has used pain killers in the past and possibly at present, and seems to have a driven, type A personality.
I love the guy but I have always worried about him taking proper care of himself because we need him so badly. Let’s pray that if this is simply a warning that Rush switches to the healthiest lifestyle possible and strictly follows the doctors’ orders.
Do you check your pings? I'm certain that I pinged you to the LONG Rush messagethread long before you asked me for a URL, which was long long long after I retired for the night.
You seemed to have intense difficulty finding the most active thread of the evening. You could have easily located all the Limbaugh threads by doing a keyword search:
http://www.freerepublic.com/tag/rushlimbaugh/index?tab=articles
Now there are almost a dozen articles about his hospitalization.
The thread you were looking for is still on the sidebar under Breaking News, where it has remained since it was first posted.
I try to check a few pages showing the LATEST POSTS, to see if anything 'big' is being discussed.
Evidentally Rush had a good night, and hopefully he'll be permitted to fly home soon.
Plenty of people are immediately stated to be in Fair Condition, Good Condition, or Stable Condition.
Happens ALL the time.
The EMT source had informed the first reporters that Rush was in SERIOUS CONDITION, not in critical condition, not in stable condition, not in good condition, etc.
So, you may use the ADJECTIVE "serious" but that's NOT what people were discussing last night.
Best wishes for a speedy recovery, Rush.
I was not liking the “taking medication for back pain” idea here. Hope an addiction relapse was not involved.
Also I’ve wondered whether Rush’s recent, rapid weight loss -— one of many he has “accomplished” over the decades -— might become increasingly hard on his heart.
Anyway, I sure hope he gets well.
The Rats at that link are trashing Rush.
Funny that DemonRats don’t get hostile toward MOSLEM SERIAL KILLERS, but if Rush eats an omelette, they hope he chokes on it.
Kinda tells you where their loyalties lie.
God Bless you Rush, Praying for your quick recovery.
Gabapentin is wonderful for nerve pain but can’t be stopped suddenly. There is a very high probability a sudden stop in the medication will bring on seizures.
I’ve used it for over a year and have been warned by my doctor repeatedly NEVER to stop taking it without is permission and attention.
I’m sure Rush told them everything he is taking (if he was unable someone who has knowledge) realizing the risk of the media learning of his medications was nowhere near as important as his life and health.
....taking medication for a back problem....
My first thoughts, too, were that he might be hooked again on pain killers. Hope not.
He probably read the whole health care bill. That will give you chest pains for sure
Gabapentin????
I cant take any drugs from this family of drugs....
they make me, literally, nuts.
thank God I stopped taking them...
Agreed in regards to Rush telling the paramedics — no need to worry when you’re talking about life and death, no matter whatever other consequences there are... I just wonder how they got the information - did a paramedic talk, does the press monitor transmissions and such, or did someone in the ER talk, ya know? That’s the only thing that bothers me about it all...
RE: Gabapentin, I’ve been on it for, gosh 3 years now??? It’s been a lifesaver for me. I can tell how dangerous it is though if you stop cold just from a few times over the years when I’ve forgotten to take it (esp. if I miss the nighttime dose which is 900mg). It’s the strangest feeling in the world because you just move and it’s like all these electrical impulses shooting from all over your body and you can literally FEEL the impulses from the nerves travelling to your brain — I can’t explain it adequately but it’s a VERY strange feeling, and scary, too. I’m glad that’s only happened a few times - I use a weekly medicine box thing now, and it makes it easier for me to remember to take all my medications...
So, yeah... It’s a WONDERFUL medication, IMHO, but it is very dangerous to go off it without weaning.
Yep, different meds work differently for different people!
While it’s worked great for my nerve pain, it didn’t do a THING for my husband when he blew out his back a couple years ago.
I’ve heard of other horror stories too like what you describe, but when it works it’s a good medication. I don’t LIKE taking it, but the alternative is worse for me...
It’s original use was as an anti-epileptic/anti-seizure medication, and I’d bet it can screw with one’s brain chemistry for sure, hence why it would make some people, literally nuts! Lucky for me, I was already nuts! ;) (Just kidding - I think! LOL)
