Gabapentin????
I cant take any drugs from this family of drugs....
they make me, literally, nuts.
thank God I stopped taking them...
Yep, different meds work differently for different people!
While it’s worked great for my nerve pain, it didn’t do a THING for my husband when he blew out his back a couple years ago.
I’ve heard of other horror stories too like what you describe, but when it works it’s a good medication. I don’t LIKE taking it, but the alternative is worse for me...
It’s original use was as an anti-epileptic/anti-seizure medication, and I’d bet it can screw with one’s brain chemistry for sure, hence why it would make some people, literally nuts! Lucky for me, I was already nuts! ;) (Just kidding - I think! LOL)
That does not surprise me, though I’m sorry you have the side effect.
Gabapentin and drugs of the same type are used to treat Parkinson’s Disease, seizure disorders and other conditions caused by nerve damage or ailments related to neural function.
For me, Gabapentin has been very helpful with few side effects.
I have severe nerve damage that manifests symptoms in my right leg and specifically right foot. Most of the time I have no feeling from the knee down, a times I can not move my foot or toes at all. The worst are the day where I have wave after wave of sharp, searing, burning, stabbing pain down the right leg beginning just above the knee, laterally, down the calf/shin and moves across the top of my foot, directly to the tip of my big toe.
Gabapentin has helped relieve the pain aspect, and has restored some feeling and motor function. It has also helped with shooting pain I experience from my L-3 vertebrae.
For those who can tolerate the medication, it is one of a many medications that can be used, aside from narcotic pain relievers, to assist in pain management cause by neural distress or damage.
