You let a dude from a Muslim country and no luggage on a U.S.-bound plane with NO passport?! Hellooooo . . .?:

While Mutallab was poorly dressed, his friend was dressed in an expensive suit, Haskell said. He says the suited man asked ticket agents whether Mutallab could board without a passport. “The guy said, ‘He’s from Sudan and we do this all the time.’”

Mutallab is Nigerian. Haskell believes the man may have been trying to garner sympathy for Mutallab’s lack of documents by portraying him as a Sudanese refugee.

The ticket agent referred Mutallab and his companion to her manager down the hall, and Haskell didn’t see Mutallab again until after he allegedly tried to detonate an explosive on the plane. . . .

About an hour after landing, Haskell said he saw another man being taken into custody. But a spokeswoman from the FBI in Detroit said Mutallab was the only person taken into custody.

I doubt very much that in the time between when Haskell saw this guy trying to get on the plane without a passport and the time when he boarded, he suddenly manufactured a passport out of wholecloth. If it’s true–and it sure sounds like it–that this guy, Abdul Mutallab, a Muslim foreigner, was allowed to board the plane without a passport, it’s epic incompetence.

Oh, and who was the other guy the FBI took into custody? I’m not buying the agency’s story that no-one else was arrested, given what the Haskell’s report.

Mr. trumandogz, i was under the impression that all international flights to the U.S. had to have flight manifests sent to the U.S. prior to the flight leaving so that the homeland security could check the passengers against the no fly list and if someone was on the no fly list the U.S could refuse to let them into the U.S. I could be wrong but i thought that was the way the process was done?? So not only did nwa screw up big time, but homeland security especially since the terrorist father fingered him to the fed. gov. As i say i may have the process wrong but i agree with you this was a total failure from start to finish...............

The way I understand it is that the Dutch at Schiphol dropped the ball. We let this character on without a passport therefore not knowing his real name.
U.S. officials approve the passenger list before the plane is allowed to depart. Logic leads us to believe that if we knew his real name that he would at least be thoroughly searched prior to boarding.

The Haskells are relatives of my husband, and the family has been all abuzz about this. Where was the debunking of the well-dressed man? Kurt Haskell continues to say that he saw and heard this.

We need to find out what idiot in the Federal Government decided to not combine the “Terrorist Watch List” and the “No Fly List.”

My guess is that the combination of those two lists has never occurred going back all the way to 2001.

There was a thread I believe it was last night, would
have to run through the titles.

Listening to John Batchelor on WABC and one guest mentioned the story, there are some things that don’t ring right .

Even in the early 1980s when I flew into and out from Schiphol in Amsterdam, the security was extremely tight
down to guards with major weapons checking the run through of carry ons. My passport checked and stamped.
I found Schiphol was more than efficient.

If that story is bogus, I hope we will find out. That means the couple quoted as seeing that welldressed man and no passport stuff is made up out of whole cloth, which brings their motive up. Why would anyone make up crap like that?

Haskell has posted his boarding pass as proof he was on the flight.

He also says he saw a second person ON THE HIS FLIGHT get arrested by the FBI.

I’m inclined to believe him.

Schiphol is perhaps the best airport in the world, easy to navigate, great food, nice shopping and plenty of KLM flight attendants to see.

And there security always seems to be very good, maybe better than Heathrow.

However, there are a few airports in Europe that lacks good security, one which will remain nameless, has horrible security, but that is better than what it had 20 years ago which was non existent security for international flights.

Back in the 80’s I think I could have carried on a wooden box with big red letters that read “TNT” and none of those blockheads would have batted an eye.

There is NO evidence that this man was let on the flight with no passport.

Most likely, his handler in Amsterdam was ATTEMPTING to get him on with no passport. I would be extremely shocked if he didn’t have some sort of passport in the end. Al Quaeda might have wanted to save the passport for the next one.
