Senate health Care Debate - Live Thread
C-Span ^ | 12/19/09 | US Senate

Posted on 12/19/2009 4:34:45 AM PST by BCrago66

Right now, the Senate is voting on a procedural motion to table debate on the Defense bill - which Republicans are hoping to filibuster, in an effort to stall debate on the upcoming Health bill. Because Lieberman didn't show up today, the Republicans just need to stick together on this to prevail - without defections from Collins or Snowe.

It's all a dog and pony show. This demon is going to pass.

All our emails and phone calls didn't amount to anything.

So they should just vote NOW and get the inevitable damn thing over with.

You’re so right about that. I’ve asked for only one item for Christmas. I’ll let you guess what it is, but I fully expect Santa to deliver. I saw the twinkle in his eye while I was seated on his lap. *wink*

Senator DeMint told O’Reilly last night that what the democrats are doing is as close to tryanny as he’s ever seen and I agree with him.

Here’s some of Manager’s Amendment language, which I got off a lefty blog:

http://www.talkleft.com/story/2009/12/19/8498/7361

“‘‘(3) Notwithstanding subsection (b) and paragraphs 5 (1) and (2) of this subsection, the Federal medical assistance percentage otherwise determined under subsection 7(b) with respect to all or any portion of a fiscal year that begins on or after January 1, 2017, for the State of Nebraska, with respect to amounts expended for newly eligible individuals described in subclause (VIII) of section 11 1902(a)(10)(A)(i), shall be determined as provided for under subsection (y)(1)(A) (notwithstanding the period provided for in such paragraph).”

The essence of it is that that Nebraska - and apparently only Nebraska - will now get greater Medicare or Medicaid reimbursement from the federal government. That’s the great principle that Ben Nelson held out for.

That is also what bought the "Louisiana Purchase" from Landrieu.

I am reading the managers amendment
at c-span.org/healthcare.

I think Nelson only got a state opt-out provision
for abortion in the exchange.
If anyone else can figure out the abortion language that Nelson
settled for, please advise.

What about us taxpayers in other states who are not going to pay
any taxes for abortion. I am going to be a conscientious objector.
I am going to write a letter in my IRS return next year.
For religious reasons moral reasons I cannot pay $100 which would
go toward funding the subsidies under the HCR.

So much for Ben Nelson and his solemn promise to the unborn.

He’s been had. Kathleen Sebelius is in charge of the decision making. Her office is mentioned countless times in the legislation. Let us never forget that she was Tiller the baby killer’s enabler and supporter.

another question, don’t the Dems only have 59 votes or did I miss an appointment from Massachusetts to fill Kennedy’s seat?

That and the reinstatement of the current abortion funding ban. Both of those Nelson asked for as the price for his vote.

All our emails and phone calls didn't amount to anything.

This is not true and you can rest assured that the war is not over even with the passage of the bill. And the bill has NOT passed yet.

The left has done itself tremendous damage with the American people and American's don't like having things shoved down their throats.

It may be in place for a few years - and it won't even take effect for a few years - but it can be taken apart piece by piece and scuttled with a new congress and a new POTUS and increased pressure from more and more dissatisfied Americans.

Patience and faith, FRiend. :0)

States can opt out of paying of abortion where state laws prohibit such funding. States like California and New York, where court orders require such funding, there will be no opt out.

You know, when I saw the Nebraska Governor talk with Greta the other night, he mentioned the burden on Nebraska, but to his credit, he included the burden on ALL states, and I knew right then and there that Reid would get Ben on board ala a Mary Landreui Louisiana purchase.

Damn them all. They’re all for sale at the right price and it’s OUR money.

I’ll wait for others to find the pertinent language and do the analysis, but so far I haven’t heard that the Senate bill will have an outright ban on federal abortion funding like Stupak Amendment in the House.

The United States Constitution does not provide for nor authorize the recall of United States officers such as Senators, Representatives, or the President or Vice President, and thus no Member of Congress has ever been recalled in the history of the United States.
