U.N. climate talks fell into crisis on Saturday after some developing nations angrily rejected a plan worked out by U.S. President Barack Obama and leaders of other major economies for fighting global warming.
Countries including Venezuela, Sudan and Tuvalu said they opposed a deal spearheaded on Friday in Copenhagen by the United States, China, India, South Africa and Brazil at the summit. The deal would need unanimous backing to be adopted.
The document "is a solution based on the same very values, in our opinion, that channeled six million people in Europe into furnaces," said Sudan's Lumumba Stanislaus Di-aping.
"The reference to the Holocaust is, in this context, absolutely despicable," said Anders Turesson, chief negotiator of Sweden.

The people of Tuvalu have used up their natural resources and are looking for a rich sugar daddy to rescue them. The farcical rulers of the atoll hit on the idea to complain that global warming is coming to get them via rising seas. Thus, the island has become the cause célèbre for the eco-fascists to “prove” global warming. For about 10 years, the Tuvalus have been begging New Zealand to take them on as wards of the state. They want to be given free homes on the beach, a monthly welfare stipend and all the booze they can drink.

They are becoming common here in SW Wisconsin. Mostly being built by refugees from Madison, only a few of whom live in them for more than the summer and perhaps over a few weeks of winter break.
The major problem we have seen is that the sprayed concrete shell placed over the bales can crack, due mostly to settling, and let in moisture. Another problem is if the bales are not 100% dry before being wrapped in plastic and concreted over. The result is rotting hay and a home for various vermin. I am unsure if the damp hay is in danger of spontaneous combustion. I tend to think they work best in desert conditions. They are said to be quite comfortable in the hottest part of summer.
Most of the owners seem to like them.
The deal is a sham—a sham-wow—a fig leave to cover the failure of the scare tactics of the Eco-Hippie Communists. The conference was a flop and all future ones will be like the flop that was Esparanto (Remember the one language for all mankind?) It was a great hit in the 1930s until Germany had other ideas—(they had one language for the world—German)

All that is certainly true- liberals have NEVER been about ‘helping hte poor’- despite their incessant claims that they are the party of hte little people- they are about control and money grubbing FROM the little people. They just couldn’t wait to get their greedy little hands on the $$ that the 34 million ‘uninsured’ people have- which is why they are goign to fine anyone that can’t or won’t buy insurance because it’s too expensive- essentially, poor people will be penalized for being too poor to buy insurance
Let’s say 10,000,000 people still can’t buy health insurance- they will be fine around $3500 p/y apiece from what I’m reading- that amounts to $35,000,000,000 (billion)p/y just in fines for those greedy pricks in congress- and let’s not forget that they will also be fining small busiensses that can’t afford to insure their workers- so we’re talking a huge amount of money the govenrment will be raking in off the poor people who are struggling every day just to make ends meet while those freaking fat-cats in washington’s only concerns wil lbe about what brand of caviar and wine they’ll have for lunch.
The ‘gracious’ government is goign to give the poor ‘subsidies’ to ‘help them buy insurance’ but this will amount to what? $400 p/y per individual? To ‘help buy’ policies which will no doubt cost more than $400 per month? Woopidy doo!
By the way- BY LAW- hospitals can NOT refuse to admit peopel because they don’t have insurance, and they can’t force people without insirance to pay for their care- infact hospitals are required to treat the poor at no cost- and the hospitals are compensated by the government every year for this service- so the ‘34 million uninsured poor people who ‘don’t have insurance’ is a crock of crap- Yep- they don’t have insurance, BUT they DO have FREE ACCESS to healthcare- it’s even a law that hospitals MUST treat illegal aliens at no cost to the illegals

When building it is important to keep the bales dry. My brothers built a straw bale house in Maryland which has more rain than Wisconsin. They tested the bales for moisture content, then kept them well sheltered while building with them. They don’t have to be 100% dry, but I think they should have under 13% moisture content. My one brother was an architect and knew what he was doing. Your refugees from Madison may be students who think they can do this without learning anything about it first.
Several years ago I saw the Burritt Mansion built in Huntsville, Alabama in 1938 with over 2,000 wheat straw bales. They have 50 inches of rain there.

Actually, a lot of work has been done getting standards for permit granting (the home my brothers built was fully permitted in a wealthy county), fire insurance, and bank financing. They are actually quite fire resistant, more so than a wood frame house, once they are covered outside and in.
If the cement covers on the Wisconsin homes were cracking it was because they did not let them settle enough or clamp them down with straps or all thread.
In India and China they would certainly be an improvement. When I think of all the school children killed in the earthquakes. Straw bale homes are quite earthquake and hurricane resistant. Vermin is not that much of a problem, and if it is some borax can be mixed in.
They use ground up news paper treated with boric acid as a flame retardant and use it as insulation, perhaps they could treat the straw with boric acid....
What’s the construction cost per sq. foot?
