From NBC's Mark Murray and Domenico Montanaro
Just how angry is the public with the country's two leading political parties? Angry enough that the conservative, libertarian-leaning Tea Party movement is more popular than either the Democratic or the Republican parties, according to the latest NBC News/Wall Street Journal poll.
The Republican Party maintains its net-negative favorable/unfavorable rating in the poll, with 28 percent viewing it positively and 43 percent seeing it in a negative light.
For the first time in more than two years, the Democratic Party also now holds a net-negative fav/unfav, at 35-45 percent.
By comparison, the NBC/WSJ poll shows the Tea Party movement with a net-positive 41-23 percent score.
Yet looking inside those numbers, more than three-quarters (76 percent) of those who say FOX News is where they get their news see the Tea Party movement positively, versus just 4 percent who see it negatively.
That's a stark contrast to how viewers of the competing cable networks CNN and MSNBC see the movement. More of those viewers have a negative opinion of it (36 percent) than a positive one (24 percent).
Those who get their news mostly from broadcast TV (either NBC, CBS or ABC) are split -- 28 percent view it positively, versus 27 percent who view it negatively.
The entire NBC/Journal poll comes out at 6:30 pm ET.

Yep and there are a lot more FOX viewers

Perhaps the Republican Party should join the Tea Party, and learn how to serve a real constituency.
we rock!
Hey z-Pelosi what was that astro turf comment again, do you mind repeating it?
Somebody needs to pick up the pieces ASAP. And it ain't going be be people like Michael Steele or the current crop of statists.
The GOP will be saved by the Tea Partiers,We The People.
The key is for the GOP to absorb the Tea Party movement.
Not co-opt it, but just prove to the tea party supporters that they are best served by supporting Republicans.
Most of them are probably disgruntled Republicans anyway. But if you can add the tea party support to those who already support the GOP that’s a good start.
A 3rd party is just bad news.
In a sense it would be like how Euro govts have coalitions. The GOP needs to basically set up a coalition with the Tea Party but just run everything under the GOP banner.
First the GOP will be saved by the Tea Partiers, then the Republic will be saved by the GOP, led by the Tea Party faction.
“Those who get their news mostly from broadcast TV (either NBC, CBS or ABC) are split”
RIGHT, and we wish they weren’t watching that network propaganda.
Those are the people that we need to reach, that are conservative, but still getting their information from the damn networks. People who’ve not yet made the connection that they are being totally lied to.
That is EXACTLY how it is going to happen!
“They WANT a significant number of conservatives to leave the GOP, almost assuring the dems of re-election next year”
The GOP/RNC insiders just need to stay the f*ck out of the primary fights and let the people decide. If they push another damned RINO on us, they WILL get the same result. Call it hard-headed or obstinate but real conservatives, to whom their principles MEAN something will not support a John McCain, go-along-to-get-along RINO quasi-liberal piece of s**t.
The very first time we hear of anyone attempting to run for office on the "Tea Party" ticket, or even if we get a hint of anyone trying to organize such an official party, we need to come down on them like a ton of bricks.
The Democrats would like nothing better, than for the right to split their votes between Republicans and a new third party.
I was watching Hardball tonight, I wanted to Chris lose his cookies over Coburn forcing the Senate to read Bernie Sanders’ entire 700+ page amendment before the vote. I must have missed that segment, but I did catch Matthews and Chuck Todd discussing these poll results. In fairness Chuck Todd made a big point of the huge trouble the Dems are in, and he indicated the Repubs, with Tea Party help, could take the House back next year. Todd made another big point about potential liberal primary challengers to incumbent Dems next year, Blanche Lincoln for example. He made it clear to Matthews that the Dems were the ones in deep doo doo, not the Repubs. Todd also made a huge point about the power of FOX News, and he said this on MSNBC, I was pleasantly shocked.
Interesting, years ago the head of one of the alphabet news networks was lamenting the fact that the majority of their viewers were over 60.
