Billion people's water at risk from melting ice: Gore

COPENHAGEN Climate guru Al Gore warned UN climate talks Monday that record melting of Polar and Himalayan ice could deprive deprive more than a billion people's access to clean water.
Adding to an avalanche of bad scientific news over the last two years, the former US vice president cited new research showing that the Arctic ice cap may have shrunk to record-low levels last year.
"2008 had a smaller minimum, probably, than 2007," Gore said at the release of a report he co-sponsored with the Norwegian Foreign Minister Jonas Gahr Store, called Melting Snow and Ice: A call for Action.
"These figures are fresh, I just got them yesterday," Gore said, alluding to work led by Wieslaw Maslowski of the Naval Postgraduate School in Monterey, California.

I have a National Parks guide to Grand Teton National Park, written in the 80’s before they started this GW nonsense.
The guide says the glaciers have been receding since at least the mid 1800’s and eventually will be gone by natural processes.

""These figures are fresh, I just got them made up yesterday," Gore said"
There, fixed it.
The Global Warming Top Ten isn't working anymore, so algore is down to 11-20.
I guess Barbara Boxer was right about them making this "personal"...threatening drinking water for billions makes it pretty personal.
I think - if the glaciers melted - all that water would seep down into the crevasses of the earth and just be boiled away by that "millions of degrees" of heat down there...just sayin. /sarc

If the ice caps melt, then advanced civilazations from galaxies far away wont be able to land their spacecraft.Gosh! Really? I never thought of that. That's very alarming.

Translation of Gore’s statement: that rising water stuff is going to kill you. Give me unlimited power so I can kill you instead.

She and her Husband are heading South when they retire, Both Republicans. I suggested Texas, The Hill Country, I think that Idaho might be a little cool for them. But tell them to stay away from Austin, aka San Francisco of Texas.

The real problem with melting ice is it waters down a great margarita.
To: dblshot
Thats why they built dykes and pump water out.
yeah i know that the dutch are quite capable dealing with this :-)
the comment with the wet feet was more like a joke from me to prove the stupidy of Al Gore and his “theory” about the fresh water supply for a billion people.

What is this buffoon talking about? The more unfrozen fresh water introduced into the water rotation, the more water will be evaporated out of the oceans, more cloud cover, more rain, more fresh water distributed across more lands. The rain itself will partially filter the air and cause more polluted sediment to wash into the streams to rivers and eventually to the oceans where after moving through currents would end up with the rest of the silt at the bottom of the oceans. I might not have a clue about any of this, but neither does Al Gore.

It could be both. Failed at a legitimte profession. But a con man at heart, used the family name to sail into congress. And now has found a good scam.
Failed at legit, succeed at dishonesty. Could easily be the same guy.

So, comparing the model used in 2007, projecting arctic to be ice-free in 2013, to sea ice in 2009 the Russian/US arctic "low-levels" have now refrozen.
