Egypt has begun constructing a huge metal wall along its border with the Gaza Strip as it attempts to cut smuggling tunnels, the BBC has learned.
When it is finished the wall will be 10-11km (6-7 miles) long and will extend 18 metres below the surface.
The Egyptians are being helped by American army engineers, who the BBC understands have designed the wall.

18 meters below the surface?
wow.

Egypt isn’t any more enamored with the Palestinians than the Israelis are. That goes for Jordan, Lebanon, and anyone else who has had to deal with them in the last 60 years.

18 meters below the surface? And they're using Rearden steel.

Think we can subcontract those American Army engineers in Egypt to put a wall that goes 18 meters down on OUR southern border?
Maybe we can get some TARP or Cash for Clunkers money...

I’m sick and tired of every leftist crying a river about the Israeli blockade on Gaza.
Egypt is an equal partner in the blockade and nobody gives them a hard time for their role.
That’s proof that the leftists are simply anti-Israel. They don’t really care about helping Gazans, otherwise they’d be working on getting Egypt to end the blockade - not Israel. After all, Egypt should be the weakest link in the blockade, right?

Actions speak louder than words.
In spite of all the endless declarations of solidarity etc., this action is exactly what the real Arab world thinks of the Palestinians.

It cannot be cut or meltedSo how did they make the steel if it can't be melted?
And how did they cut into pieces they use to assemble it if it can't be cut?
What BS.

Last paragraph:
"The wall is not expected to stop all the smuggling, but it will force the Palestinians to go deeper and it will likely cut the hundreds of superficial tunnels closer to the surface that are used to move the bulk of the goods."
Thats gonna be purty deep for a goat-herder to dig....heh heh heh.
Looks like they are expecting them to give it a try to keep on keepin on with their digging.

"18 meters below the surface?" That's 60 feet down!
When they're done, maybe we can put the contractors to work on our border!!
