Would you 'send a gun to defend a British home'?
National Gun Rights Examiner ^ | December 2, 2009 | David Codrea

The December 1959 issue of GUNS Magazine is now online, and it tells us the story behind the poster in the feature article "Guns in our bundles for Britain," by William B. Edwards. Edwards comprised a fascinating account of the effort to change that. And he gave us some interesting insights on the dangers of registration:

I was told by a leading London gun dealer that selected personnel were called secretly to the War Office in Whitehall, given individual keys to lorries full of Bren guns, grenades and ammunition, and told to "take the bloody stuff and bury it-we don't want records and we don't want to be able to be forced to tell where it is-and use it for resistance in the invasion."

Sadly, outrageously, we learn that when the danger had passed, government trust in the people went away, and the people for the most part, obeyed in the "cleansing of firearms."

Thus today's sorry state of affairs. This is one hell of an historic account, and you won't find it anywhere else. Knowing it, how many American gun owners would be inclined to answer a similar call for help today? Take the poll and give us an idea:

From the UK - wow this is new to me!

We are trusted with guns by our government with the Hum at the door but not otherwise.

Thanks for sending them! I cannot apologize for what a previous generation did.

But I guess we would do the same.

Actually, the responses at the site seemed to be along the lines of “They elected the socialists, let them rot in their own muck. If they want guns, let them get rid of the socialists.”

well the last loads of guns we sent ended up in the crapper when they banned em, both the private donations, as well as thousands of service rifles...

they need to tool up and fix their problems...we need ours here for the current invasion...

I heartily agree with the general sentiment, we reap what we sow and in the UK we have given our freedoms away for delusions of equality and human rights.

I oppose this but I have to rot in the garbage along with the rest.

Oh hum,

Thanks or sending the guns anyway - that's friendship. Just nostalgia now.

Hell no! My grandfather donated a shotgun and a Winchester rifle in WW2 and the idiots destroyed them. They can use cricket bats next time, unless they've outlawed those.

People who do not believe in self defense are not worth defending!

This may sound bad, but I'm finding that I feel the same way regarding our situation. The worse it gets, and hearing about people 'regretting' voting for the marxist muslim, the harder my heart becomes. I'm in a rage 24/7 now and when I hear people moaning and groaning (BO voters) the more I feel share sentiments and that includes NYers p*ssing & moaning about the terrorists being tried there.

I read about this years ago. It seems that whent he British evacuated France at Dunkirk they were forced to leave behind all their equipment including small arms.
Birtain was so gunless that a German invasion of England at that time would have been sucessful.

They called on the AMERICAN PUBLIC to send anything that would shoot to Britain asap till British manufacture could catch up.

The guns poured in and much of the home guard was immediately equipped with them till the end of the war.

After the war, those firearms with names of donators were sent back to America. Other firearms were placed in museums.

The rest were dumped into the sea.

Agreed. If they can't figure out how to build the functional equivalent of the Sten gun in garages and basements, shame on 'em. Or, probably easier, just sneak into the basement of the nearest mosque - bet there's all sorts of hardware piled there.

Sure, I'd help them out. Risking the loss of a pillar of Western Civilization is nothing to be smug and dismissive about.

I've heard this question before and once was of the mind that I'd send the Brits an empty box containing a parchment inside with the Second Amendment to the US Constitution written thereon in elegant Colonial-era cursive script.

Now, if something like this were to happen again where England needed arms donations to defend herself, infinitesimally small as that case would be, I'd actually send a good rifle that I own over there.

I'd make sure to tack a small brass plate to the stock with my name and state engraved on it, plus the reminder 'Aim Small'. Maybe they'd send the rifle back someday and I'd have a nice heirloom to hand down or place in a museum as a reminder to patriots.

There's also another part of me that says that any British citizen that provides good stewardship for the rifle I'd send would probably be better served by me sending them a one-way plane ticket to the USA instead.

The Brits should save their own sorry skins. We bailed them out of trouble twice in the 20th century and yet they still disposed of their guns and any common sense. You can’t really help a people like that.

True. If you save them, they’ll end up having sex and making more of the same dependent whiny appeasers.

Every story I have heard said after WWII was over the guns were dumped into the North Sea, but nothing was said about those that were returned to the US.

Supposedly the guns were dumped in 1947.

Would you or others here have information about the number returned vs those that were destroyed or dumped into the sea ?

If Britain put out a plea for guns today, would you send them one?

Yes 37%

No 63%

The poll is still open.
