Washington (CNN) -- President Obama will announce Tuesday he'll deploy 30,000 additional U.S. troops to Afghanistan "at the fastest pace possible" with a goal of starting to withdraw forces from the country in July 2011.
"The 30,000 additional troops that I am announcing tonight will deploy in the first part of 2010 ... so that they can target the insurgency and secure key population centers," Obama will say, according to excerpts from his speech at the U.S. Military Academy in West Point, New York.
Obama will say that the additional U.S. forces "will allow us to accelerate handing over responsibility to Afghan forces, and allow us to begin the transfer of our forces out of Afghanistan in July of 2011," according to the excerpts released by the White House.
The president has a goal of withdrawing most U.S. forces by the end of his current term, senior administration officials told CNN Tuesday. Obama's first term ends in a little more than three years.
Obama is ordering the Pentagon to complete what the officials called the "surge" of U.S. forces by the summer of 2010. A transfer of security responsibility from American and NATO forces to Afghan forces is slated to begin roughly a year later.

It is worse than that. The tribal chiefs are not fools. They will know that if they cooperate with us now, they will be killed in 2012 - so effective immediately, no competent chief will have any dealings with us, other than betrayal.
And why should they, since we plan to betray them in 3 years or less?
A surge or counterinsurgency only works if the populace concludes you are there for as long as it takes.
Instead of this obvious BS, why don’t we just leave now and let the chips fall where they may? At least we’d save lives of our wonderful soldiers not to mention money.

Since no one on the left will even understand why announcing the date of a planned withdrawal is beyond moronic, let me try to ‘splain it to them.
BO announcing the date of troop withdrawal would be the same as one of you notifying the gangbangers in your city of when you plan to be on vacation leaving your house empty.

AND Obie figures the busily rearming quiet in Afghanistan, which he will use to claim victory and helpo the dems sweep congress in 2010, the violence may hold off until 2012, thus netting him another four years...
