Most people expect Barack Obama to lay off some of the blame for the directionless policy on Afghanistan this year on George Bush in his speech tonight at West Point. Lee Siegel at the Daily Beast expects Obama to come across as closer to his predecessor than Obama might imagine. When it comes to pursuing the war in Afghanistan, Siegel a war opponent sees Obama as Bush Lite, and the speech as a manipulation of high order:

You know, sometimes I think about how President Bush sat back and took heaps and heaps of vitriolic abuse and didn’t fight back (a mistake I think) on the apparant impression that he was willing to take the abuse on personally if it helped keep the ball moving is other fronts, especially the war on terror. I wonder how he must feel after years and years of that, only to see this guy dismantle it all in less than a year. It’s just got to be killing him.
All right, let’s kill this once and for all. Much like the garbage rumor that J Edgar Hoover was a cross-dresser was founded by someone who had an axe to grind against him, some schmuck on the left said that Bush said that the Constitution was just a “G-damned” piece of paper to slander him.
It’s fascinating how many who profess to not fall for the left’s lies and propaganda still get stuck on their ttalking points.
